Book Review: The Librarian's Daughter by M.M. Gavillet

The Librarian's Daughter: The Story of Abi VanHavenThe Librarian's Daughter by M.M. Gavillet
Book Summary: Not All Books Were Meant To Be Checked Out…

Magic scepters, enchanted wands, and poisoned darts aren’t usual implements used by librarians—unless you’re in charge of imprisoning bad wizards, renegade sorceresses and evil magicians into books that aren’t ordinary books. Keeping order among the enchanted community isn’t what nineteen-year-old Abi VanHaven had in mind of a career.
Finding out your mother was a librarian isn’t earth shattering. At least that’s what Abi thought. Everything changed when Abi received a letter from her mother that died before she had any memory of her. What was to end with her mother has now spilled into Abi’s life.
Now hunted by Victoria-a once librarian turned evil sorceress, Abi must find and secure a powerful scepter her mother took from Victoria. Abi isn’t alone on her quest. With the help of two eccentric witches, a drop-dead-gorgeous siren, a misunderstood gnome and the guardians—an organization devoted to protecting libraries that hold incarcerated criminals, Abi finds herself between good and evil and also the blurred edges between friendship and love.

Liana's Summary: Abi VanHaven, after the death of her mother, is sent to live with her Aunt. But after her aunt dies, she is sent to her cousin Jenna, but heartlessly kicked out. She lives with her cousin Meg and her suspicious and controlling husband, Nate, until she finds somewhere else to live and a job. And that's when she finds out her mother was a librarian, and is immersed into the world of sirens, treelords, guardians, and the such.

Book Review: Ash by Malinda Lo.

AshAsh by Malinda Lo.
Book Summary: Cinderella retold

In the wake of her father's death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.

The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King's Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash's capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.

Entrancing, empowering, and romantic, Ash is about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief.

Liana's Summary: When Ash's father dies, she is in the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her stepsisters. They treat her like a mere maid and makes her do all the dirty work. The day that Ash meets Kaisa, her heart starts to feel true love, despite that Sidhean has already claimed her.

Rate(1-10): 7.5

I have this thing for retellings. Like, it's the same but only different. It's unique and original at the same time as it was adapted. I've been meaning to read this for a long time, and i think the only reason I brought it up to the top of my TBR list is because Malinda Lo is coming in for an author visit! How exciting. Anyways, I've already read her newest novel, Adaptation, and it was really good! She's a good writer!
Ash was a Cinderella retelling, as all know, with a lesbian twist. I don't know why, but I was kind of disappointed that she had spoiled that for us that Ash was actually a lesbian. It would have been a really cool twist.

I don't think I hated her stepmother as much because I just hate all stepmothers in Cinderella retellings, so it's just like an instinct, you know?

When I first got my hands on this book, the first thing that came across my mind was that it was smaller than I had ever anticipated. It was only 260-something pages. Despite that, it was still a pretty nice and short read that I enjoyed thoroughly. Ash is sometimes an annoying little brat (despite her being 4 years older than me) and sometimes dislikable. Just a warning for those who hate annoying protagonists..

The romance was pretty good, between Ash and Kaisa, but one part of me wishes that she had ended up with Sidhean.. I mean, he loved her and everything!

Quotes~

"I am to have a stepmother, and two stepsisters,"

And this is when everything starts

"Stop it-- don't say that!"

Why is she so annoying

"..like he was worried."

AW HE'S WORRIED

"..despite the fact that he was twenty years older than her."

Ew... reminds me of Paris and Juliet LOL EW which brings on a whole other level of speculation of how it would be like if Juliet ended up with Paris

"You have no respect for me or what I have done for you,"

What have you done for her really

"It is agony,"

Poor Sidhean it's ok we all love you -sobs-

Book Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) Paranormalcy by Kiersten White.
Book Summary: Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Liana's Summary: Evie has always wanted to be normal. She tries to consider herself normal. But she's surrounded by paranormal creatures. And she can see through glamours. Her best friend is a mermaid, and her one true love is a shape-shifter. Her ex is a faerie. When things get as normal as they can get, they start to backtrack and things become weird, and scary. What should she do about it?

Rate(1-10): 8.5

So yeah, I was planning to save this book for later but since I had an ARC of the third book lying around, I decided, hey, maybe I should read the first book.. now. And so I read it.

So, this book. I've been wanting to read this for quite a while, although I didn't know what to expect just by looking at the title and the cover. About paranormal creatures? A girl that's a paranormal creature? Fair enough. What I mainly care about is:

-Captivating synopsis
-pretty cover (I know I know gosh)
-Interesting title
-ROMANCE.

And let's just say this book had them all.

What I didn't like was the main character. Evie's great and all but I just can't stand her. Mainly because she reminds me of myself. Naive, indecisive, and some other traits that I'm not proud of possessing.

Let's say that the romance is perfect, and Lend is so hot?

So she's sorta like a cop (not really) that works for the IPCA, an industry or company or whatever they are that keeps paranormals in control. I like how Evie's a tough girl and all, but I dislike the fact that vampires aren't dangerous bloodsuckers but easy conversationalists and portrayed to be a bit too weak in my point of view (maybe I watch too much Vampire Diaries) and I also dislike the fact that there are paranormals EVERYWHERE. Because I don't really like the paranormal genre too much.

But yeah, it was good. I liked it.

Quotes.

"...cute even,"

I smell anticipation and foreshadowing reading these two words

"...he liked me, too!"

Paranormals are dying and she's seeing creepy things in her dreams and Reth is still chasing her and oh hey HE LIKED ME, TOO!

"And I want to show that world to you."

I CAN SHOW YOU THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD

"Evelyn is mine. You are irrelevant."

Reth's arrogance is annoying
this is bad
really bad
really really bad

"I really, really, really liked the feeling of my hand in his."

We get it.

"You should leave, though."

Let me guess, I WON'T LEAVE WITHOUT YOU? LOL.

That's that.

Book Review: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa.

The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) The Iron King by Julie Kagawa.
Book Summary: Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

Liana's Summary: Meghan's world is turning upside down. She finds out her best friend and only friend turns out to be a mythical creature and that her brother has been abducted. She now knows she has go to Nevernever- the world of fey, and find her brother to bring him back safely. But with all the people after her in that world, can she be safe? And maybe even fall in forbidden love?

Rate(1-10): 10

Wow. This book was truly amazing. At first I only wanted to read it because of the fancy cover and all, and then I started to hear really good things about this story. However, I heard that the protagonist was ridiculously annoying, which sort of discouraged me a bit about reading this book because I just hate annoying protagonists so much. Once again, I mention, if I were a protagonist in a book everyone would hate me. I would make a really bad protagonist LOL. Well anyways, recently, as you all know, I got really sick of the Dystopian genre, and the last Dystopian I read recently was Prodigy by Marie Lu. I don't even care what her book's genre is-- I love her writing so boom. Even if I was so sick and tired of that genre I still read her book with such fangirly excitement. Back to the topic-- after Prodigy, I knew I had to take a break from Dystopia for a while because I was so sick of the technology-filled world and stupid government rule and a plague or something (I'll be reading Marissa Meyer's SCARLET soon but I guess I won't count that as a Dystopian). So I picked Iron King up.

Well, I have one message for this book that I would say to it if it were a person:

Bby, I'm so sorry I cheated on you for two other books. It's just that I had to finish them first. I'm sorry I made you wait, and left you, take me back? I love you.

I'm such a book cheater. Which is why I posted two other reviews up while this book was in my Currently Reading box. Wow just wow. Well, I'm glad I didn't put this book off for later because I actually enjoyed it a lot.

Character Discussions! (Main)

Meghan- Can I just express how much I hate her as a protagonist like wow I seriously don't like her all that much. On the very first page, I hated her. For a long period of time, she was so useless I was really annoyed. But in the end, she proved to me that she could save a gentleman in distress instead of being a damsel in distress and waiting for gentlemen to save her. I finally learned how to tolerate her, but that still doesn't mean I like her.

Robbie- I won't say his... ahem true name ahem.. right now because that'll be a huge spoiler for people who haven't read the book. Well I guess that mere sentence was a spoiler for everyone huh. I apologize... anyways, Robbie. He's really awesome. He's the prankster- the sarcastic guy. He seems like a great friend and a funny person. I think he was my favorite character in this whole book. (Not good to show favoritism but no one cares)

Ash- All I know is that he's a seductive evil icy prince dude and people are only on Team Ash because he's hot and he's a rapist-- fine. I'm just mad that Meghan likes him instead of Robbie okay. Team Robbie all the way! I can't deny that Ash is hot but still.. Meghan and Robbie are more of a better match.

Grim- He's a cool cat. Reminds me of the Chesire Cat. Just a bit less creepy and smiley all the time. Grim seems like the person who would say "I saved your life because it looked fun." instead of admitting that he actually cared for you. It would be really awkward if he died. He's one of those characters. But yeah, he's pretty cool.

The Iron Fey, the fey made of iron, has this whole series named after them. For about 3/4 of the book I was so annoyed and confused of what the title could mean and when they finally explained Iron Fey I was like.. oh.
I found myself exercising my foreshadowing skills a lot in this book. Yeah, I'm prescient like that.
Quotes!
"Maybe my luck was finally turning around."

Ha-ha. NO.

"Anger flared,.."

Of course. Another protagonist with anger issues?

"Robbie's hand clasped firmly around mine."

Heehehehehehehe you have no idea how much I giggled on this scene LOL.

"..is a changeling."

"Call me Puck."

"..Nevernever. That's Faeryland to you."

How..very..creative..

"...be sure to tell me so I can run away screaming."

Wow that's cute

"..a sleek gray horse.."

HE'S A HORSE. HE'S A HORSE? HE'S A HORSE. OMG.

"..but I nodded."

She has no idea what she's doing. Another reason I dislike her.

"There's a deadly poison running through my veins;.."

Ain't it a bit too late for that?

"You are still a virgin, right?"

Oh, God.

"... I pulled out my dripping, water-logged iPod."

I knew the iPod was going  to be of use. Wow.

"..who had one arm wrapped around my waist.."

THIS ISN'T AWKWARD AT ALL

"Puck?"

"..you are my daughter."

"But that man is not your father, Meghan. I am."

This is such an 'I am your father' moment.

"..and I fell away into oblivion."

Because she saw her ears

"I dislike mortal clothes within my court,"

Clothes can be mortal and immortal omg

"..I had your mortal rags burned."

"Bastard."

You don't call your own dad a bastard..

"That's fine with me."

"You reek of human,.."

What do humans smell like?

"I wondered if Oberon had freed him yet."

Oh it's been a few hours I wonder if it's been a few centuries already

"..the boy from my dreams."

WE HAVE MET ONCE UPON A DREAM

"..he was even more beautiful.."

NO MEGHAN YOU CAN'T SAY THAT YOU CAN'T BETRAY ROBBIE

"A dance."

Wow

"And I promise to be a perfect gentleman until the night is done. You have my word."

Uh-huh

"..his mouth against my ear."

Please stop it Ash omg go away

"..tiny smile."

Do not smile at her Ash or else

"I'll kill you."

Das q..

"You are amusing,"

And so are you, Grim!

"..is a very old faerie."

So he's an old man..?
"Nothing."

WOW THAT'S HELPFUL

"A huge black bird flapped through the open door."

AND GUESS WHO SAVES THE DAY. WOOOOOOH!

"No!"

YES

"Kill mistress,"

YESSS

"I've been waiting for you,"

No one's been waiting for you Ash

"..he was devastatingly gorgeous,"

No Meghan you can't think that you can't love him gosh Meghan you're so impossible

"..how 'bout a kiss for luck?"

"..looked disappointed."

YEAH OF COURSE 'CAUSE HE'S BEEN DISAPPOINTED

"'cause I wrote the book."

PUCK IS AN AUTHOR WOW ;D

"..and began popping them like candy."

NOOOOOO WHY IS SHE SUCH AN IDIOT

"..staring at a frayed leaf.."

"..vastly amused by the whole display."

Is this even supposed to be amusing?

"Horrified, I watched dark blood blossom around his ribs,.."

-SCREECH- NO WTF WHY

"..is off-limits."

GOOD.

"Slowly, he leaned forward."

Nooo... please go away

"..and then he was kissing me."

"You are as beautiful as I imagined."

THIS IS SO AWKWARD

"I want you to become my queen,"

BUT HE'S OLD WTF

"I hesitated."

WHY IS SHE EVEN HESITATING EW MEGHAN YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ME HATE YOU FOREVER

And that's that! This book was truly enjoyable-- I liked it a lot! Please excuse my grammatical errors in my quote reactions. They give more of the effect I want when people read them. Exasperated.. etc, you know.

Book Review: Angelfire by Hanna Peach.

Angelfire (Dark Angel 1) Angelfire by Hanna Peach.
Book Summary: An army of angels walk among us. They have kept us safe and ignorant, so far.
Earthbound for centuries and ruled by the Elders, they have established hidden cities, a society and The Code: obey your Elders, kill all demons, eliminate Rogue-angels, protect the mortals, remain hidden. Their warriors are the ungifted earthborn angels armed with blades and the ‘borrowed magics’ of distilled angel-blood tattoos.
Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. If only she could overcome the taint of her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues.
When Alyx saves Israel, a gifted mortal with a past, she is forbidden to see him again. But she can’t help herself, drawn to him through their Guardian-bond, an ancient and long-forgotten bond; if he dies, she dies.
An encounter with a handsome Rogue leaves Alyx questioning all she has been taught to believe. Alyx begins to dig into the Elders’ secrets. Two thousand years of secrets that begin with the death of the Archangel Raphael. She is not prepared when she uncovers an Elder’s dark plan.
Somewhere on earth is a key to unlock hell. Somewhere on earth are pieces of an amulet that controls Lucifer and his army. Somehow Israel is the link and now both sides are after him. Who can Alyx trust when Good and Evil is no longer clear?
The war for earth begins.

Liana's Summary: What they tell her isn't going to stop her from finding out the truth. Alyx knows she's been lied to. Even her most trusted friends have been lying to her, to keep her ignorant. There are too much things going on. When she meets Israel, she realizes that they're drawn together in this Guardian-bond. She has to keep him safe. And, maybe even fall in love with him? At the same time, there are evil plans made by the Elders. What is she going to do about it?

Rate(1-10): 8

First of all, I would like the author for personally taking the time to email me and introduce me to her book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Anyways, let's dive right in.

I felt like Hanna Peach was trying to mash a lot of concepts together all at once, and I sort of felt confused in the beginning, since it started out literally, from the middle of somewhere. I didn't understand it immediately. However, the good thing is, the author actually explained some things at the end of each chapter, like from a textbook.

So, the characters. They're supposed to be angels, which just reminds me of The Mortal Instruments all over again, but, this book just made the angels seem like faeries instead. I mean, angels are supposed to be all angel-y. I don't know how to explain, but yeah. I think they work better off as faeries because everything they do seem so Pixie-Hollow ish I can't help but think of Tinker Bell. They're also categorized by talent. See, they do work off better as faeries.

Now, let's concentrate on one specific character. The main character. Alyxandria. Alyx.

She seemed so ignorant at times I just wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into her. But then she's really tough and relentless and she's always like, 'damn everything, I'm gonna get what I want' and she reminds me of Isabelle Lightwood from Cassie Clare's Mortal Instruments series.

The author herself said that this book has a lot of similarities with the Mortal Instruments, and yeah, I think I can make a legit analogy:

Nephilim is to TMI as Seraphim is to Angelfire.

Yep.

So, the romance. The romance isn't even that great but I was glad it was there because I LOVE ROMANCE. And it was really good. But it didn't help that the guy had another girl on his mind and they did some really dirty things together and at the end he chooses-- I WAS SO FLABBERGASTED I SWEAR

And there's the ending. That ending is so freaking awesome. It totally makes people want to read it!

That's all I have to say. Definitely check this out.

Quotes! There are quite a few good ones.

"I need to win," he says.

SOMEONE SLAP THIS IDIOT

".. I will stop racing for you."

Aw snap, what now.

"Let's do it now."

This sounds really awkward. Just saying. Especially since the person saying it is really fail at seducing.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

It seems this is an ideal line to those who are lying.

"Too familiar."
Regina George (Rachel McAdams) crying .gif (MEAN GIRLS)

"Relax beautiful, lest your frown wrinkles your perfect face."

"Even your tummy rumbles are cute. Hungry?"

"It's part of the street pirates code, lovey."

EW DON'T CALL HER LOVEY

"Let her go," Israel is yelling. "If you hurt her I'll kill you."

I love how some characters, such as Israel, think saying this is gonna be effective towards the antagonist somehow. LOL.

"Bitch,"

Feisty.

"You're right,"

Book Review: Nandana's Mark by Heidi Garrett.

Nandana's Mark (Queen of the Realm of Faerie Series, #1) Nandana's Mark by Heidi Garret.
Book Summary: The half-faerie Melia is hounded by dark moon visions. She believes the visions are linked to her father’s ambitions to incarnate Umbra—the mortal ash accumulating in the void. When the Illustrator marks her forehead with a call for help, Melia gains the courage to challenge her father. Before help arrives, a tragic accident occurs and the truth of her family’s dark legacy is revealed.

Liana's summary: Melia is half- faerie. She doesn't have wings. She gets visions- because of Nandana's Mark. They're linked to what her father wants to do. And at last, whatever she does can kill-- literally.

Rate(1-10): 7.5

First of all, I would like to thank the author for sending me a digital copy! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
At first, when I read this book, I was like, ew no. Faeries. I hate faeries. Don't know why. But the author just wrote it in such a different way that I ended up liking this book much more than I thought I would!

However, there's one thing. You know me, you know? I want MORE ROMANCE. There was sadly a small amount of romance in this book. Which is why it went from 10 to 7. I'm always looking for the romance.

So, at first, I thought Melia was THE main character, but then her siblings have an active role in being the center of the story too.

This is really random, but as I read this book, I pictured it as a Barbie movie. Maybe it reminded me of Princess of Swan Lake or something but I can totally see this book as a Barbie movie. It's not a bad thing, LOL. I think Barbie movie plots are ridiculously interesting.

And now-- yes! It is time for quotes.

I search for the speaker. He stands in the east—a male with dark hair, sunburnt skin, and emerald eyes. I want to swim in those eyes.
He holds out his hand; it doesn’t reach me. A brown cloak billows behind him.
I want to move towards him, but my feet are rooted.
‘I will stay with you,’ he says. ‘No matter what.’

Oh my. It's finally getting good.

“Their rocks and sticks were no match for my sword.”

Uh huh.

“Stop obsessing about him. You’re worse than Melusine going on about ‘Raymond, Raymond, Raymond.’”

LOL. Once my friend was so obsessed with her crush that she was ecstatic about him merely being present at school. ohmygoodness.

She needed to regain her equilibrium.

You can use equilibrium like that? Then does that mean you can you can say, "I need to keep my homeostasis?" (;

She hated books.

Gasp. Then I hate her.

“Why aren’t you proud of us? What we did was heroic,”

You killed your father and consider yourself heroic?

“Unlike you, Ohloh, Melia doesn’t live in a world of books,” Uncle Raffles said.

Pshh. It's okay Ohloh. You're not alone. (:

Book Review: The Fairy Ring by Mary Losure.

The Fairy Ring: Or Elsie and Frances Fool the WorldThe Fairy Ring by Mary Losure.
Book Summary: The enchanting true story of a girl who saw fairies, and another with a gift for art, who concocted a story to stay out of trouble and ended up fooling the world.
Frances was nine when she first saw the fairies. They were tiny men, dressed all in green. Nobody but Frances saw them, so her cousin Elsie painted paper fairies and took photographs of them "dancing" around Frances to make the grown-ups stop teasing. The girls promised each other they would never, ever tell that the photos weren’t real. But how were Frances and Elsie supposed to know that their photographs would fall into the hands of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? And who would have dreamed that the man who created the famous detective Sherlock Holmes believed ardently in fairies— and wanted very much to see one? Mary Losure presents this enthralling true story as a fanciful narrative featuring the original Cottingley fairy photos and previously unpublished drawings and images from the family’s archives. A delight for everyone with a fondness for fairies, and for anyone who has ever started something that spun out of control.

Liana's Summary: Frances saw fairies. She told everyone that. No one believed her, though. Everyone knows fairies AREN'T real. But her cousin, Elsie, hatched up a plan to make everyone believe them, real or not. True or false. It doesn't matter- as long as people believed them.

Rate(1-10): 6

I didn't really like this book! After all, I don't think it deserves a <5 because I don't want to be unfair. After all, it was my fault for reading a book meant for younger readers. (Although I did notice that a lot of adults liked it as well!) I suppose it's not a teenager book. I would totally recommend this to Elementary school kids. It's meant for middle grade students, but, I would really recommend this to avid Elementary readers. Because if kids in Elementary school don't read, they won't even enjoy this book at all. I guess it's for little kids, and adults. Not teenagers. Please. Especially teenagers like me that expect romance in a good book! (As long as there's romance. I'm happy.)

The good thing was, I actually finished this book quite fast! I got the ARC version, even if it was published already, so it might or might not have been different from the published copy. Just a little, anyway.

There WERE parts I liked in this book! For example, one of them was learning about old fashioned cameras! You had to like, put this glass plate in and the picture would ink on it. It's so kewl~ :D And I'm such a photography freak, too. Also, I learned that old fashioned styles were kind of awkward, like, ladies with big buns and hats and stuff. I didn't know they used gum to keep their hair in their hats. Ew. I'm starting to realize that I actually learned stuff! No wonder adults enjoy it.

I wasn't planning to read this book just yet, but I wanted to read a fast little story so I could kill time between now and Thursday- the day I'm going to the book club in my school hosted by author C.J. Omololu, author of TRANSCENDENCE and DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS.  I'll get to receive this one book the group is supposed to read and discuss. I forgot the title. Facepalm.

The reason why I would recommend this for younger readers is because there's no vocab at all that they don't explain for you right after the word is listed. (If that made sense. Sorry, been typing sentences that don't make sense recently.) And it's really short, too. The words are HUGE. I'm talking HUGE. And there's pictures. Yipee.

Anyway, I'm not really a big fan of fairies, and thank goodness this book didn't have anything big on talking fairies and sparkles. After all, it is a true story. The book's summary sort of spoils stuff, and in my summary I tried not to spoil anything.

I don't really have much to say. (Or maybe I do, but I'm rushing to finish this review and all the stuff I was about to say ran out of my head.)

I guess my quotes will express the rest of my thoughts! And no, there's not much. I said it was short.

"She was a slow reader, a terrible speller, and was always getting scolded for daydreaming."

"Then, a week later, he had to return to France, for the war was still not over."
I'm learning French. -pedoface-

"..called changelings.."
How many times have I seen that word in fairy-related books.

"I know quite well that fairies exist..."
No. Just no.

"Mr. Gardner had sent a box of chocolates and a letter for Elise, not her mother."
Pervert status. LOL, just saying. I'm a teenager. I tend to think like that.

"His name was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."
Who is that again. omg.

"Most people knew him as the creator of Sherlock Holmes, the world's most famous detective."
OH, SO THAT'S WHO HE IS. :D S. Holmes is fab.

"The book was two and half inches thick and 319 pages long."
Wait, 2 and a half? That's not 319! Unless the words were big as fingers..

"Elsie's fairy wore an evening dress and a fashionable 'bob' haircut."
Ew. That haircut. I once had a dude cut my hair, and he gave me this haircut, and I cried.

"Frances hated it when the newspapermen tried to interview her."
PAPARAZZI CHASE.

"Why the hell should I care what you think?"
Well. Maybe not for Kindergarteners after all.

And that's all!

Book Review: Wolves, Boys, and Other Things That Might Kill Me by Kristen Chandler.

Wolves, Boys and Other Things That Might Kill MeWolves, Boys, and Other Things That Might Kill Me by Kristen Chandler.
Book Summary:  KJ Carson lives an outdoor lover’s dream. The only daughter of a fishing and wildlife guide, KJ can hold her own on the water or in the mountains near her hometown outside Yellowstone National Park. But when she meets the shaggy-haired, intensely appealing Virgil, KJ loses all self-possession. And she’s not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that they’re assigned to work together on a school newspaper article about the famous wolves of Yellowstone. As KJ spends time with Virgil, she also spends more time getting to know a part of her world that she always took for granted . . . and she begins to see herself and her town in a whole new light.

Liana's summary: Katherine Jean Carson is finally starting to look like a girl. But, just because her new appearance is different from her old one, it doesn't mean that her classmates have forgotten every single embarrassing detail from the past, and when Virgil Whitman comes along, they put her on full blast. Meanwhile, with KJ suspecting him, Virgil tries to get along with her, and along the way, they find romance, wolves, and disaster.

Rate(1-10): 8

So, usually, I don't like those books that are set in the 2000, or 1990, or something modern, without some.. MAGICKK. Magic is missing. D; When I first saw this book, I apparently thought that there were werewolves, but they're actually actual wolves. LOL. Well, because it's modern, I didn't give it a 10. Otherwise, this was a pretty good modern book! I keep saying modern. Like rlly. I think all my books are set somewhere NOT to this time, and if it is, at least there's magic. This isn't my book actually. :p But my point is, I liked it! (:

Discussing the name Virgil: Well. When I was taking a Diagnostic for the SAT, I read a passage in the Critical Reading section. And the narrator was named Virgil. That's honestly the first time I heard that name, (About 4 weeks ago) and I thought it was a girl's name and I thought the narrator was a girl until I saw the questions about HIM. Yeah, well, my main point is, I like that name good enough now. (x I do. Maybe I'll use it somewhere..

Discussing the name KJ: Usually protagonists aren't really named two letters, but I suppose it adds to her 16 years of boyishness. Katherine Jean. Eh. I like it because it's unique. (: Besides, JK Rowling. KJ Carson. I like it. (x One thing- I've always imagined Kristen Stewart as KJ. Don't know why. But she fits! Even if I don't like her, but.. oh well.

The main concentration about wolves: I don't know. Wolves. Apparently the author knows wolves. I'm one of those writers who WON'T use self experience for a character. (Despite the birthday so I can remember it. Besides. That's what Joanne K. Rowling did.) Anyways, I don't think that the story would have been interesting if it wasn't for the wolves.

Before I read it I thought: Virgil was a werewolf and he was going to bite KJ and she's gonna be "Wolf Girl" (on the back of the book!) And then yeah. Apparently I haven't paid enough attention to reviews. omg.

After I read it I thought that it was pretty unique. I have less quotes. ;D

I skimmed through a lot. I finished last night at 12:30PM. Here's Liana's step-by-step tutorial on how to sneak in the middle of the night: I shouldn't be teaching this, but um.

1- Wait for 5 minutes after the lights are off.
2- Move an inch.
3- Move another inch.
4-Repeat step 2-3 until you're off the bed.
5- Fast is quiet. Now run to the bathroom.

It totally occurred to me that many of you have your own rooms and can just turn on the lights. LOL. But this is why I like the ereader.

Quotesssss~~

"And the coyotes are biting him. Very exciting."
o________________O I don't know, man, exciting ain't really a weeerd to describe this.

"After sixteen years, I finally started to look like a girl this summer. I had to buy a real bra,..."
Uhh. Don't even know what to say.

"Either he has a crush on Virgil too..."
omg. This made me laugh out loud.

"Whatever, Just because you got boobs and a haircut. He's still way out of your league, sweetie."
How. Rude. Like he's in your league?

"...and he gifted me a C-. I still can't do math."
EWWWWWWWWWW. A C- LIKE EWWWWWW GET AWEY. Not even I am that bad. And I stink at math. Like, I got a B. Two times in a row. </3

"Don't tell me to shut up."
"Both of you shut up."

LOL. Shut up, don't tell me to shut up, both of you shut up. (x

".....I have Sexy Hair sitting in front of me?"
Okay, one thing I forgot to mention: Virgil's not that hot. But, oh well. Sexy Hair? o_o

Virgil's warm Minnesota voice floats out in front of me. "When the value of the variables changes, when the values can be reversed or destroyed, it changes the inequality."
WOOOH. Go Virgil!

"I mean, I noticed you. You're pretty."
Even I don't know what to say.

"You look like you have a giant hickey."
EW.

"You're dad's a tough guy,"
What. YOUR. It's YOUR NOT YOU'RE LIKE WHAT KIND OF WRITING IS THIS IT'S YOUR! Sorry. I get like that when people mix up you're and your. Like. Really. I'm sad to say that the author did this two times in the book.

"Like what? Do you think I'm gay or something?"
"You're not?"

omg. You offended him, girrrrrrrrrrrrl.

"Mud looks good on you."
-_______-'

"You know.. the guy..."
"The guy?"

LOL. THE GUY. He's THE guy. (x

"What if Virgil becomes my stepbrother?"
EWWWWW.

"I go to the kitchen and make him a sandwich."
Way to go with the stereotype, KJ. Way to go.

"So what if they sleep in the same room."
Overprotective dad!

"Do you ever wear clothes around my daughter?"
omg. (x NO SIR. It's a mere coincidence.

Book Review: The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman.

The Grimm LegacyThe Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman.
Book Summary: Elizabeth has just started working as a page at the New York Circulating Material Repository - a lending library of objects, contemporary and historical, common and obscure. And secret, too - for in the repository's basement lies the Grimm Collection, a room of magical items straight from the Grimm Brother's fairy tales. But the magic mirrors and seven-league boots and other items are starting to disappear. And before she knows it, she and her fellow pages - handsome Marc, perfect Anjali, and brooding Aaron - are suddenly caught up in an exciting, and dangerous, magical adventure .
Liana's Summary:  Obviously, giving the shoes to the homeless woman was a good decision. When Elizabeth gets a job at the library, she gets acquainted with Marc, Anjali, and Aaron. Things are pretty strange there: Does magic really exist?

Rate(1-10): 8

This book was actually better than I thought it would be. It took awfully long though, since I've been awfully busy with awful awful homework. You get the point. I think it took 3 days? Yeah. :c I would've took 2. I was determined to finish it.

There's a lot of things to talk about. Okay. So first off, I want to talk about Marc. Marc Meritt, the basketball star, is really really tall. And Aaron hates his guts, because Anjali likes him instead. I think him and Anjali are a cute couple. Just saying. Aaron looks like Michael Jackson. ._. :c Scary. And I definitely like Marc better than Aaron. Not that Marc and Elizabeth would make a good couple. Ew. No. Just no. He's too tall. Aaron is really just ugh.

And there's Anjali: I think she's my favorite character in this whole book. Basically because she's got the smarts. And so talented. And nice. I don't know, maybe if she wasn't in the story, Aaron would'nt hate Marc. But, yet again, if she wasn't, everyone would be lost. What would they do without her sister?

And Aaron. I talked about Aaron in the last two paragraphs already. He's scary and he looks like Michael Jackson. He's so awkward! In the beginning, he's only nice when he's talking about rugs. And then he gets all mad when anyone mentions Marc, and whenever Anjali's there or when they're talking about her, he just gets all dreamy and I'm all like. What.

So then, yeah. I thought that Dr. Rust was really scary at first. Or was that Doc? I don't know. I think they were both scary. The bad guy in this story wasn't that unpredictable, because I wasn't that surprised.

Omg, at the cover. "Borrow the magic...if you dare!" Seriously? ._. That made me create a really bad impression on this book. But I guess it's pretty good.

And the end of the book is so " I can show you the world! Shining, shimmering, splendid!" You'll see if you read it. It's so awkward. Like she's seeing the world with Michael Jackson. I can't help but think about M.J. whenever Aaron's in the scene. And he's such a big fat jerk in the middle of the story.

And Jaya, what would I do without Jaya? She's the one that made me laugh at all in this whole book. Like, out loud. Not like "Wow, funny." Or, *smirk.* Like, really, HAHAHAH. Or maybe silent wheezing. That's more like it. My point is -She's hilarious.

Okay! So here are some of my quote-reactions: (Like 3.)

"Aaron was much nicer when he was talking about rugs than when he was scolding me about not breaking things, I thought."
MEAN.

"He had a beautiful, firm, handshake."
Oh, psh. That's Anjali's boyfriend right there. Don't even get too obsessed with him.

"He got a dreamy half-smile on his face. 'Anjali.'"

So is this why Aaron hates Marc so much? Anjali? (;
That is all. I think I would've done more, but it's just that I didn't have my sticky tabs with me on the car, and I was too lazy. But my point is, the ending is so I CAN SHOW YOU THE WORLDDDD. A WHOLE NEW WORLD!

It's so Aladdin.

So then, I'm going to move on to another book now. Jack London's Call of the Wild! It's a recommendation from my Dad, although really small and thin. I think, if I tried, I would be done really soon? I don't know. It all depends on time!

Bye~

<3, Liana.
