Book Review: Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks

Message in a BottleMessage in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
Goodreads Synopsis: Thrown to the waves, and to fate, the bottle could have ended up anywhere. Instead, it is found just three weeks after it begins its journey. Theresa Osborne, divorced and the mother of a twelve-year-old son, discovers it during a seaside vacation from her job as a Boston newspaper columnist. Inside is a letter that opens with, "My Dearest Catherine, I miss you my darling, as I always do, but today is particularly hard because the ocean has been singing to me, and the song is that of our life together." For Garrett, the message is the only way he knows to express his undying love for a woman he has lost. For Theresa, wary of romance since her husband shattered her trust, the message raises questions that intrigue her. Challenged by the mystery, and driven to find Garrett by emotions she does not fully understand, Theresa begins a search that takes her to a sunlit coastal town and an unexpected confrontation. Brought together either by chance or something more powerful, Theresa and Garrett's lives come together in a tale that resonates with our deepest hopes for finding everlasting love. Shimmering with suspense and emotional intensity, Message in a Bottle takes readers on a hunt for the truth about a man and his memories, and about both the heartbreaking fragility and enormous strength of love. For those who cherished The Notebook and readers waiting to discover the magic of Nicholas Sparks's storytelling, here is an achingly lovely novel of happenstance, desire, and the choices that matter most.

Book Review: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

The Time Traveler's WifeThe Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Book Summary: A dazzling novel in the most untraditional fashion, this is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate love affair endures across a sea of time and captures the two lovers in an impossibly romantic trap, and it is Audrey Niffenegger's cinematic storytelling that makes the novel's unconventional chronology so vibrantly triumphant.

An enchanting debut and a spellbinding tale of fate and belief in the bonds of love, The Time Traveler's Wife is destined to captivate readers for years to come.

Liana's Summary: Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire have a long history. Except when Clare approaches Henry when he is 28 years young, working in a library, he has no idea who she is. And she knows that is the way it is supposed to be. While Henry has never seen Clare before in his life, Clare has grown up seeing him. It is not amnesia-- but time travel.

Rate(1-10): 9

This was actually a very good book. It's been a while since I've read a historical fiction story, and I have to say that after reading this, I really miss the genre. This was a high recommendation, and now I know why!

The story just basically revolves around the life of Lina Vilkas and the horrific ugliness of a prison camp. (I seriously can't believe they did that to the Lithuanians..) Lina holds on to her hope, her love, and tries to stay strong. (What's even better, I think, learning about this whole thing with Stalin might help me with AP World History this fall.)

As Maggie Stiefvater said in her review, this is not a pretty book. Although it's actually very well-written, I couldn't help but grimace at some points of this novel. But then again, there's nothing pretty about a prison camp.. with starving and dying people.. who have diseases..

The beauty of historical fiction is that readers are given a chance to learn. And it's fiction, too. And the author can add romance whenever he/she wants. So, in other words. Yes, there was romance. It was just too cute. Even more cute, Lina was able to find romance in the midst of sadness and grief. It proves that she still had hope!

The ending was quite powerful. (Not to mention cute.) It was a wonderful 300-something page read.

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone. Yep, anyone! Give it a try! If you don't like history, this book might let you view history in a different way. And if you do, hurrah!

Book Review: Looking for Alaska by John Green.

Looking for Alaska by John Green.
Book Summary:
Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter's whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. Then he heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.

After. Nothing is ever the same.

Liana's Summary: After Miles Halter meets Alaska Young, everything changes. Suddenly, he finds himself in a group of friends. Friends, he never had before. He has an obsession with memorizing famous last words.. Things develop with Alaska, until he finally falls for her. But after that night, everything changed for the worse.

Rate(1-10): 8.9

I've been wanting to read this book for a while--because, well, 1, John Green is like a GOD, and 2, it's all the rage.

Some people may argue that this book is too mainstream, and that's why they don't want to read it, and I see their point of view, but the fact that some books are too mainstream make me want to read them even more, because it just sparks my curiosity. The question is: Is it really that good? And all you really have to do is find out for yourself.

So. Was this book good? Yes, it was. It was great. Fabulous. Sad. But I still have to say that I enjoyed The Fault In Our Stars much, much, more. Looking For Alaska was a really well-written book, but I didn't enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed John Green's way of writing.

Character discussions- One thing that I admire about John Green is that he creates characters with depth...

Alaska- Well, her name being on the title, I guess all of you can guess that she's a very important character. She's great, really. Once you get to know her you'll just wonder about her because you KNOW she has depth. You just know. I think she might be my favorite character.

Pudge (Miles)- Well, his name's not in the title, but he just so happens to be our narrator. I can't help but be reminded of Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower when I read this story in Pudge's point of view. How? Well, one thing is that he's easily influenced..

Colonel- He may seem like a really tough guy that would rather die than open up to people, he's a really nice friend inside.

Takumi- I can't be the only one that thought of Kenji from Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me series. No, it's not only because they're both Japanese, gosh-- it's that they almost have the identical attitude about things. And I love Kenji. So I love Takumi too. Alaska and Takumi are definitely my top two..

Yeah. The story was a bit slow in the beginning, but only for about two pages, because the plot moved on right away. Couldn't put the book down. Didn't want to get off the bed to drink some water- maybe because I was tired and lazy but mostly because I didn't want to put down the damn book.

I hope to read more of John Green's books--I have Paper Towns in a pile under my desk right now--because he is A W E S O M E.

Quotes

"And the way her mouth curled up on the right side all the time..."

So is this when the romance starts

"Because you may be smart, but I've been smart longer."

That's probably the best thing a fictional teacher has ever said

"Too bad I love my boyfriend."

Just forget your boyfriend already ohmygod.

"Pudge, my friend, we are indefuckingstructible."

Note to self: Use that word sometime.

Book Review: The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd.

The Madman's Daughter (The Madman's Daughter, #1)The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd.
Book Summary: In the darkest places, even love is deadly.

Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.

Inspired by H. G. Wells's classic The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Madman's Daughter is a dark and breathless Gothic thriller about the secrets we'll do anything to know and the truths we'll go to any lengths to protect.

Liana's Summary: Juliet thinks that her father may be alive, but she refuses to believe it-- that is, until, an old but familiar diagram leads her to the last person she expects to see-- Montgomery, the boy of her childhood, the childhood that was lost ever since her mother died and her father left. After Juliet loses her job, mainly because of self-defense, she goes to Montgomery and tells him to take her with him to see her father. But is her father the same loving, gentle man that she used to know? Or has he been driven completely mad? Juliet has to deal with her long lost father, and two boys that are completely in love with her at the same time. But she can find a way out of this mess- can she?

It's been a while since I've chosen a book to read all by myself without any recommendation from anyone. And this book was FREAKING AMAZING. I can't contain myself, LOL. It completely deserves the 5 stars and even more if I could give it.

I honestly don't know where to start because I can't-
My feelings-
Ineffable-
INEFFABLE-
I can't put this into words-
This book was too fabulous-
omg-
so done with life right now-

Well, I'm gonna try to spit it out. Ahem. So, the title speaks for itself. The main character is a daughter of a madman that just so happens to be performing vivisection brutally and making wild animals into human-like beings----

Okay okay character discussions

Juliet- She was a likable main character, opposing sexism the whole entire time. She seems a bit too stubborn, though, and sometimes really desperate. She's brave but not really brave, and very, very.. brusque. But still a likable protagonist.

Edward- You see, when he first came in I just knew that it was going to be a love triangle. Well then. At first, I abhorred him for ruining the perfect relationship between Juliet and Montgomery, but... Well, Edward is a complex character.

Montgomery- He. Is. Hot. omg. When he first got introduced to the story, I got really excited since I knew that the book was about to get even better than it already was. Montgomery is a kind, caring, and composed man. He keeps his secrets and does what he does for the good of others. He's a true gentleman.

The ending was too much for me to handle. I couldn't even breathe, omg. Like, seriously? THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME, MEGAN SHEPHERD, I CAN'T.

The romance was all right. However, Juliet seemed a bit torn in between and it just annoyed me out of my mind-- LOL at least I know clearly which guy I'm rooting for now

Honestly I have to admit that I'm really disappointed there is going to be a sequel. I mean, I'm glad there's more of the story to see and I'm definitely gonna get the next book when it comes out-- but. But, the ending of this book was absolutely perfect and tragic and, even if there is more to write, I feel like a sequel will ruin the perfectly constructed ending of this book. Well, that's my opinion, anyway.

Nonetheless, I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book and this is definitely a recommendation that I'm willing to give to anyone.

Quotes~

"..his handsome features.."

"..tied his blond hair back."

Megan Shepherd is such an amazing author, and this is just her DEBUT. Wow, amazing. There were so many plot twists in this story I can't even breathe anymore

Book Review: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.
Book Summary: When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Liana's Summary: When Ruby turns ten, everything changes. Her parents don't recognize her anymore- their memories of her all erased. So Ruby is sent to a rehabilitation camp. When she finds out that she has a frightening ability that is beyond her ability to control, she's afraid, afraid out of her mind. Now she's sixteen, and escaped, helped by someone she learns that can or cannot be trusted. So, escaping that someone and their group, Ruby encounters Liam, and many other escaped teens, just like her. Ruby is aware that she may hurt him-- so the only choice is to pull away. But will Liam pull away? Will he do it if he knows it's for his own good? He won't.

Rate(1-10): 8.6

And here I go, starting out this reviews like I start many other reviews: This was a recommendation. Heard lots of good things about this book. Yep. LOL.

I liked this book lots. When I heard so many good things about it, I knew I had to check it out.

The cover and title are absolutely fabulous, and they were the aspects of this book that drew me in at first. Dad barged into the room as I was reading this and he grabbed it and started accusing me of having a dark and wicked mind.. LOL.

At first, I'll have to admit, it wasn't really that good until after the first 100 pages. (Things started to escalate from there, so yipee!)It probably had to do with the fact that I'm absolutely SICK of the dystopian genre-- and I shouldn't really be reading something in the same genre as the story that I'm currently writing, in case I get influenced.. I'll probably go back to the dystopian genre one day when I'm honestly sick and tired of Fantasy and Contemporary. Anyways, when I had my first glance at this book, I had no idea that it was going to be dystopian at all, but, it was really good, still.

This book is actually what I consider to be 'semi-dystopian' where the world isn't really different from our modern world today, but still quite different. It's set in the future, where Barack Obama is NOT president. So that's one hint that it's in the future. Another one is is the camps. The camps are a terrible place to be, kind of like the Japanese internment camps many decades ago. Except, instead of innocent Japanese people, the camps have kids in them. Kids that are segregated into groups by sex and 'color.' You're either green, blue, red, orange, or yellow, and that technically defines your danger to the adults. Usually in dystopian worlds, the adults are always unreasonable.

The ending. It was the ending that totally got me going. All I really wanted to do was scream and hurl the book across the room at the ending, but what I did was sob. omg. I can't. The ending is what makes this book a true tragedy.. to me, anyway. It was definitely a twist ending, fosho.

The romance is absolutely adorbs and completely WONDERFUL. I wouldn't have liked this book without the romance. The romance is why the ending happened at all.

Character Discussions-

Ruby- She's a likable protagonist, and she's independent, too, but she gets scared easily and sometimes the readers can't help but be just a tiny bit annoyed.

Chubs- His nickname is awesome, 'cept I like Charles so much better. LOL. He's absolutely AWESOME. Chubs is such a great character I can't even. He seems to be the 'I-wanna-look-like-I-don't-care-but-I-actually-do' guy. He's loyal, mostly.

Liam- I love Liam. His Southern accent, the way he says 'darlin',' the way his blond hair curls against his neck. Ermahgerd. He's so nice and an AMAZING leader.

Suzume- She's a wonderful little girl, smart and optimistic. No one can dislike her!

Overall, I enjoyed this book! Can't wait for the next one in the series.

"Ruby!"

Can you just go away I swear

"..darlin'."

Ermahgerrrd he called her darlin' SO Q I CAN'T

"Great--I mean, no problem,"

D'AAW HE'S STUTTERING

"Try to imagine where we'd be without you, darlin',"

omg this is too cute I CAN'T

"..pressed a light kiss against my bruised cheek."

HEHEHE

"..The Most Attractive Person I Had Ever Seen."

NO YOU CAN'T THINK HE'S ATTRACTIVE STAHP

"..turned up in a handsome grin."

No you can't think his smirk is handsome you CAN'T

"Sometimes, I just wanted him to lean closer, to tuck my hair behind my ear."

No you can't want that Ruby what are you doing you can't

"When my lips finally pressed against his.."

FINALLY OMG DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I WAITED FOR THIS
WAITED IN AGONY
FOR THESE WORDS
FINALLY

"I can't tell if you're just a spoiled little shit, or if you're too worried about getting your pretty princess hands dirty, but it sucks."

No one will ever need to remind me EVER why I love Chubs

Book Review: Where She Went by Gayle Forman.

Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) Where She Went by Gayle Forman.
(If I Stay #2)
Book Summary: It's been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future-and each other.

Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I StayWhere She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance.

Liana's Summary: Adam and Mia have been separated for 3 whole years. They've both changed. They think that they'll never see each other ever again, but, that thought is contradicted when the two cross paths one night, explaining things, starting things over. Making new changes.

Rate(1-10): 7.5

This is the sequel to If I Stay, which I read 2 years ago, not to mention forgetting some of the details. Honestly, that wasn't even the best book ever. I felt like falling asleep on some parts, but I guess that's just me discovering that Contemporary books aren't my thing.

Since in If I Stay, Mia was in a freakin' coma, and she was the one narrating, I didn't get to know her that well from another person's point of view. One of the things I like about this book is that Adam is narrating, instead of Mia. So we can see Mia from his point of view.

Adam. Well, this is interesting, ain't it? In If I Stay, he seemed like a totally different guy. Or maybe I don't remember that well. He smokes now, gets angered at the smallest things, yells at people, and throws tantrums. He's a rock star rising to fame, and yet when the paparazzi comes he loses his composure and that sort of affects his stardom a little.

Mia, on the other hand, didn't change as much, if I'm allowed to say. Honestly, I don't know. From what I collected together about her in the first book, she was like that in the second book.

This was seriously a quick read. Finished in a few hours in one sitting. The story revolved around one or two days.

When I finished the first book, I was just like, "UGH NO I'M NOT READING ANY MORE GAYLE FORMAN," but I seemed to change my mind, since I was told the second book was better than the first, which is somewhat true... But, more accurately, I think they're both Gayle Forman style. I grudgingly opened this book and was faced with satisfaction. I like how Forman explained the stuff from If I Stay and made everything right again.

Quotes!

"I pull a cigarette from my pocket.."

Oh gosh, Adam! What happened to you?!

"..so butterflies scared me."

Butterflies scare me too

"I need a cigarette."

No you don't you just want one

"Because I hated you."

That escalated quickly..

Book Review: The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

The Notebook The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.
Book Summary: A man with a faded, well-worn notebook open in his lap. A woman experiencing a morning ritual she doesn't understand. Until he begins to read to her. The Notebook is an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love, a story of miracles that will stay with you forever. Set amid the austere beauty of coastal North Carolina in 1946, The Notebook begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner returned home from World War II. Noah, thirty-one, is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories. . until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again. Allie Nelson, twenty-nine, is now engaged to another man, but realizes that the original passion she felt for Noah has not dimmed with the passage of time. Still, the obstacles that once ended their previous relationship remain, and the gulf between their worlds is too vast to ignore. With her impending marriage only weeks away, Allie is forced to confront her hopes and dreams for the future, a future that only she can shape. Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. The result is a deeply moving portrait of love itself, the tender moments, and fundamental changes that affect us all. Shining with a beauty that is rarely found in current literature, The Notebook establishes Nicholas Sparks as a classic storyteller with a unique insight into the only emotion that really matters.

Liana's Summary: Noah didn't expect a visit from Allie. But after so many years, she came back. Now, she's engaged. She came to tell him that one simple fact. Noah respects her decision, but he came to fall in love with her-- all over again. And what about Allie? She knows it's unfair to her fiance if anything happens between her and Noah. But how can she restrain her true feelings, when she knows it's real?

Regardless of what negative comments my friends said about this book, I actually enjoyed it very much.

I know it's Mr. Sparks's debut novel, and, to be honest, it wasn't as good as his other books, but I guess this was expected from a debut novel. I am not really biased in any way.. Okay, fine. I am.

This book reminded me a lot of Sebastian Cole's SAND DOLLAR. Well.. I should say that SAND DOLLAR reminds me a lot of this book. It seems that Mr. Cole got a lot of ideas from this book. I know because Nicholas Sparks was his inspiration. (;

It was a really nice love story, gentle and charming. Fabulous.

It's actually my 6th Nicholas Sparks book.. Like I said, Nicholas Sparks is one of the only Contemporary authors I can stand.

A quick and fast read-- greatly enjoyable! Now I need to watch the movie.

"...a morning person."

I'M A MORNING PERSON TOO AHAHA

"And, my darling, you will always be mine."

omg. Brb crying. Can I just die in a hole

"Go away! Stay away from me!"

UGH WHY THIS IS SO UNFAIR

"It's our anniversary."

So freaking.. sad.

Book Review: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

A Monster Calls A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.
Book Summary: The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...

This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.

It wants the truth.

Liana's Summary: Conor has been having the same nightmare, of the same monster, for such a long time now. But it stops temporarily. Because another monster has come to haunt his dreams. And it wants something even more terrifying than death. It wants the truth.

Rate(1-10): 10

Okay, if I didn't like this book then I would have accused the author of not really being Patrick Ness. After reading his Chaos Walking trilogy, he raised so much expectations. And this book met it. I loved loved loved it so much. (But I love Chaos Walking more. Who doesn't. DOESN'T COUNT IF YOU DIDN'T READ IT)

When I first saw this book, I was like, ARE YOU SERIOUS. IS IT THAT THIN? I'M ONLY GONNA ENJOY THE BOOK FOR 200 SOMETHING PAGES? WHAT. NOOOO. And when I got to the last page I was so freaking sad and oh my goodness. That ending is perfect but, it's just so tragic I wanted to burst into loud sobs right in the library. (Why can't I anyways. Someone farted super loud and it was really disturbing.)

Anyways, the main character. His name is Conor. And he's an introverted, grouchy, depressed, and reckless little git. I don't like him. He has a really bad life. I understand that. He gets bullied at school and pitied and mainly, he's just invisible. His family has a lot of complications. But sometimes I think, if he tried to be happy, he could have been. But the point is, he didn't. This whole book was so depressing yet amazing.

I wouldn't say that there was any character development in Conor. I just think that from the beginning to the end Conor opened up more and finally relented his stubborn self and let everything out. His emotion. His emotion is a big aspect actually because all he did in the beginning was have on a poker face and he wasn't even afraid of dying. He was calm in the situations in which a normal person would be screaming and crying and it really creeped me out. He's scary.

Patrick Ness is just so amazing, period.

I enjoyed this book a lot. And the pictures are gorgeous and expressive even if I don't usually like pictures at all.

Quotes~

"He'd turned thirteen just last month."
Being thirteen doesn't stop you from believing in monsters.. like Justin Bieber said: BELIEVE!

"He'll have to get his baldy mother to kiss it better for him!"

Out of all the verbal bullying I've read about, this is the worst. His mom is horribly sick and all the kids at school can do about it is bully him with it?

"No, Miss, it's not true,"

SOMEONE SLAP THIS KID

"A great arm swung down and snatched Conor up in it, lifting him high in the air, the wind whirling around them,.."

He ain't even scared. But I am.

"You look like a tree,"

"I'm not sorry,"

Wow.

"The sitting room was one of those sitting rooms where no one ever actually sat."

That should be a tongue twister. :D

"Grandma's house is an old lady's house,"

"..there is nothing I can do to help you."

"What did you do?"

Oh Conor. What have YOU done?

"He wants you to kick his arse."

That's something new.

"You lied,"

I'm just wondering how he can say that. He's a afkdjfakldasjklsjalk;j git

Book Review: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.

Before I Fall Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.
Book Summary: What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life? Samantha Kingston has it all: looks, popularity, the perfect boyfriend. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life. Instead, it turns out to be her last. The catch: Samantha still wakes up the next morning. Living the last day of her life seven times during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death--and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

Liana's Summary: After dying, Sam only has one day to live- over and over and over again. She wakes up, boom. It's the morning of that same day after she lived it already. The 'best' part is, no one remembers what happens each day. So Sam can start from a clean slate every day and experiment all she wants. But that doesn't really mean it's a good thing.

Rate(1-10): 10

Wow. I totally wanted to read this because it came from LAUREN OLIVER. You know what Lauren Oliver did to me. She has to make her fans wait so long just for book 3 of Delirium! UGH. I'm literally dying here. Anyways, I totally forgot how amazing her writing style is. This book just reminded me. Wow. Just wow. I always thought that I was in love with Delirium because of the amazing plot and plot twists but all that was because of Lauren Oliver's writing.

Okay. Enough of that. The plot.

Basically, Sam. How do I explain her. She's so freaking ugh in the beginning. Like, ew. I just didn't like her at all. She tried to be all bad and mean and ahem, 'cool and popular.' But.. the good thing is, the amount of character development that unfolded before my eyes is flipping amazing. I seriously liked Sam a lot at the end of the book. I seriously hated her in the beginning though. She MADE OUT with her freaking teacher. And she doesn't care about other people's life and death. Ugh.

The plot is all so tragic. (Yet lovely)

Anyways, the main character just dies one day and then wakes up as herself the day she died, in the morning, completely fine, starting the day over again, and then the next day she wakes up that same day. If that makes sense. Gosh, I just reread that sentence and caused myself to get a headache. Well, basically she's reliving the same day over and over again with a clean slate every morning without anyone remembering she did anything. Which isn't good but good at the same time because, well, she can fix her mistakes and try different things out. But then she has to fall in love ALL OVER AGAIN EVERY DAY. It's not like it's too difficult because the poor guy has already loved her for a long time. The romance is perfect. Liana approves. In fact, I applaud. I love love love love love the romance here.

My favorite part in the whole entire book is where she told Kent that his kiss was the best kiss she had, and then he says that he never kissed her, and then she says that he'd better hurry up and kiss her then. It was so cute. Wow. He just totally reminds me of Twilight because Kent radiates heat like Jacob does. Wow. It's too.. contemporary for werewolves to exist anyways.

This book reminds me of David Levithan's Every Day and Alex Flinn's Bewitching because, like EVERY DAY, the main characters is forced to live a day that she doesn't exactly want to. And they both do reckless things just because no one will know except themselves. It's different, but still the same. LOL. And like Bewitching, there's social bullying problems and at least one of the characters are a $*32$!@(#*$*#@$)@%&DFSKLJFSKL:DJ. yeah. You get it. It's just like Bewitching and Every Day mixed and mashed together, with the awesome extra ingredient of Lauren Oliver's writing style.

I seriously think the reliving-the-day-over-again was pretty cool. It just made Sam realize how horrible she was in the beginning and change for the better. If the ending wasn't so tragic everything would have been different. I guess it's a necessary sacrifice.

The title means a lot, now that I look at it. This book is fabulously amazing.

Anyways, quotes!

"My parents are away this weekend.."

My question: Why do fictional teenagers always do badass things when their parents are away?!

"She's always going off on tangents.."

That's the definition of one of my former teachers omg.

"..and Ally's OCD and.."

I'M OCD!!

"..planting a wet kiss on my cheek.."

image

"Open-mouthed, slurpy, moaning kind of kissing..."
image

"..taking one of her infamously long showers.."

Psh. I take like 40 minutes.

"..away and starts flirting with the waiters in bad French."

C'est nul.

"R u sick?"

This is what I wanted to comment about. So, Sam's boyfriend, Rob, is a huge jerk. Why are they even still together? All he wants is to have sex. This is partially the reason why I didn't like Sam in the beginning. Because she didn't know. He can't even say "I love you" without abbreviating it to "Luv ya" and he can't even type out the ARE when he texts his girlfriend to asks if she's sick. Just wow.

"..that my head fits perfectly in Kent's shoulder..."

image

"..punch in Kent's number..."

Someone tell me how she memorizes his number.
---------

And yeah, that's it! Man, I just realized these quotes are so ridiculously quotable.

Book Review: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.

The Fault in Our Stars The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
Book Summary: Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs... for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

Liana's Summary: Hazel is diagnosed with cancer. Augustus is sick as well. When the two meet, they both know that they were meant to be- that their romance means much more than people think. They both know that they're bound to die someday, because of the deadly poison in their body. John Green takes you through the story of Augustus and Hazel, with no other choice than to be separated at the end.

Rate(1-10): 10

This book was great. Been wanting to read it for a long time.
When my friends were fangirling really hard about this book, I really wanted to read it. And I've gotten this book as a recommendation several times. So then when my friend said she was going to the bookstore, I told her to get this book for me. (Along with 7 other books.. Which I paid for, so no worries.)

And then I started to read it. This morning. And finished 3 hours later. I have to tell you that it was GREAT. Fantabulous. Absolutely realistic and awesome and all that. The Goodreads rating. Look at that rating. Look at how much people read it.

The writing is really good. It captivated me, as it would to hundreds and thousands of other readers. I love it when a book has a good writer. Which leads me to the point of why I really like paranormal/dystopian/fantasy books, because there are only a handful of really good writers out there, and I might as well read my favorite genres all the time and not have to face the tedium of a boring writer AND a boring plot. Which explains at all why I read John Green, David Levithan, and Nicholas Sparks. Because even if their genre isn't exactly my all-time favorite, their writing makes up for it, making the plot INTERESTING.

So, I knew this book was going to be sad. So it didn't get any tears out of me. But then the thing was- a reader expects THIS to make them cry, THIS specific character to just die and leave us all alone, but the book just takes you on a whole other road, saying, nope, you guessed wrong. This character is dying instead.

It's a great illustration of how it feels to lose someone you care about to cancer. But I would love to read a book once in a while that's not so tragedic. Miracles can happen.

So, I have a comment about Augustus's (main male character) 'metaphor.' He puts cigarettes in his mouth but he doesn't light them. He says, "Death is right between my teeth but it's not killing me." I think that's pretty smart right there.

And, yeah. I think I should get started on the quotes.

"I think he's hurting her boob."
omg. LOL.

"Oh, my God, you just ruined the whole thing."

image

"Four fifty-three."

"OH MY GOD DO THEY GET MARRIED OR NOT OH MY GOD WHAT IS THIS"
Ohmygoodness I love Augustus already.

"I'm in love with you,"

 image

"And then we were kissing."
