Book Review: House of Hades by Rick Riordan (Heroes of Olympus #4)

Note: Review contains spoilers. So does the synopsis. If you have not read this or Mark of Athena, do not read on!

The House of Hades by Rick RiordanThe House of Hades by Rick Riordan

Heroes of Olympus #4
Book Summary: At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

Liana's Summary: Without Percy and Annabeth, their two main players, the rest of the crew believes they are weakened. However, they cannot let that stop them. They have to stop Gaea and her forces to restore order. With the raging war between the Greeks and the Romans, and the monsters emerging from Tartarus, the plan seems a bit difficult to follow. But in the end, who will prevail?

Book Review: Uprising by Jessica Therrien. (Children of the Gods #2)

Uprising (Children of the Gods #2)Uprising by Jessica Therrien.
(Children of the Gods #2)
Book Summary: Elyse has done everything she can to protect her friends from The Council's reach. As long as they believe she's dead, she has time to rest and train for war. And war is inevitable.

When Kara arrives with the news that Anna and Chloe have been captured, Elyse is faced with the realization that no one is safe until The Council is stopped and Christoph is destroyed. She doesn't need a prophecy to tell her to lead an army. Christoph has done the one thing that ensures she'll fight to the death. He's threatened the people she loves.

It will take more than the words of an oracle to help them fight against the most powerful Descendant alive. To break The Council's oppression and rise up against a plot so many years in the making, Elyse will need to get dangerously close to her enemy. So close, in fact, she may not survive.

Liana's Summary: War. It's time for war, and nothing Elyse does can stop it from happening. When Elyse finds out that her friends, Anna and Chloe, have been captured and are in danger, Elyse refuses to let anything happen to them. She knows that no one can be safe unless Christoph is dead. Elyse needs to get closer to her enemy-- so close that she herself, and perhaps the people she loves, may not survive.

First of all, let me thank Jessica for sending me an eARC of this book! I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Opression, and I liked Uprising so much more-- mainly because there's more action, and the plot seems to be faster paced. The romance is the same though, and I can't and won't say that's a bad thing.

I kind of forgot a lot of things from the first book, since I read it a long time ago. But with Jessica Therrien's writing, it's not hard to remember all the characters.

At first, I thought the romance was a bit spontaneous, but as William and Elyse got to interact more I felt like their love for each other developed.

If you haven't read Oppression, probably none of that made sense. LOL. Check out my review for it.

That's it!

Book Review: Oppression by Jessica Therrien.

Oppression (Children of the Gods, #1) Oppression by Jessica Therrien.
Book Summary: Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than the average person, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's closer to eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Among so many of her kind, she should not be very remarkable--except for the prophecy. Some believe she will put an end to traditions, safeguarded by violence, which have oppressed her people for centuries. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning--and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

Liana's Summary: Elyse knows she's different. She ages five times slower than the average person. She can heal herself and other people. She's not human. No matter what she wants to believe, she's not human. And not even close to normal. But when she meets him, William, she realizes that she's not alone. There are others, and since she's just discovered them, she realizes that she's been breaking a lot of important rules.. that can result in consequences.

First of all, I'd like to thank the author for sending me this copy!

The cover is absolutely gorgeous.

I've always loved Greek mythology and I knew I couldn't resist.

Anyways, character discussions.

Elyse-- I love her name, ermahgerd. Anyways, she was the main character, and I guess the protagonist as well. Usually, when characters are in her situation.. the I'm-a-freak-and-you-don't-know-shit and the I-want-to-believe-what-you-say-but-I'm-in-denial situation, the character is annoying and bitchy because the whole time they're just like WTF IS HAPPENING OMG I DON'T BELIEVE YOU AHH and I just can't stand them. However, Elyse was different. I actually liked her as a character. She's caring and determined and stubborn, and not in a bad way either. Although sometimes I can't help but feel that she's seems to be in damsel-in-distress mode a lot.

William-- He's gorgeous, yeah. And really, really cocky. I don't know if that makes him more attractive or just plain annoying. But yeah. I like his attitude and character a lot. He's flirtatious and never awkward. He's always there to save Elyse when she needs him..

Kara- She's the bad-guy-but-not-the-bad-guy (jeez, I use too many dashes) character. She's actually pretty great, it turns out, but I couldn't help but be creeped out by her in the beginning.

What I like about this book is that the beginning starts out with tons of questions that get answered later in the story.

I'll have to admit, the romance was a bit awkward. It was almost, sort of love at first sight but not quite.. But it worked out, and that's a good thing!

I'm eager to read the next book, and excited to see how this prophecy is gonna turn out!

Quotes-

"..he would be there.."

Ooooh who is this 'he' you speak of
I think the romance is starting
yes
YES

"She's dangerous, Elyse."

Ermahgerd I don't know what to believe anymore

"I'm not going,"

"Luckily, I'm the one person you can trust."

LIKE I SAID I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO BELIEVE ANYMOREEEE

"The earlier I ended things.."

..BUT THEY BARELY STARTED

"..he pushed his mouth into mine.."

Yes finally omg

"You're mine."

"I love you,"

Book Review: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. (Heroes of Olympus #3)

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3) The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan.
(Heroes of Olympus #3)
Book Summary: Annabeth is terrified. Just when she's about to be reunited with Percy—after six months of being apart, thanks to Hera—it looks like Camp Jupiter is preparing for war. As Annabeth and her friends Jason, Piper, and Leo fly in on the Argo II, she can’t blame the Roman demigods for thinking the ship is a Greek weapon. With its steaming bronze dragon masthead, Leo's fantastical creation doesn't appear friendly. Annabeth hopes that the sight of their praetor Jason on deck will reassure the Romans that the visitors from Camp Half-Blood are coming in peace.

And that's only one of her worries. In her pocket Annabeth carries a gift from her mother that came with an unnerving demand: Follow the Mark of Athena. Avenge me. Annabeth already feels weighed down by the prophecy that will send seven demigods on a quest to find—and close—the Doors of Death. What more does Athena want from her?

Annabeth's biggest fear, though, is that Percy might have changed. What if he's now attached to Roman ways? Does he still need his old friends? As the daughter of the goddess of war and wisdom, Annabeth knows she was born to be a leader, but never again does she want to be without Seaweed Brain by her side.

Narrated by four different demigods, The Mark of Athena is an unforgettable journey across land and sea to Rome, where important discoveries, surprising sacrifices, and unspeakable horrors await. Climb aboard the Argo II, if you dare....

Liana's Summary: Annabeth is finally reunited with Percy. Everything's supposed to be perfect, right? Wrong.  It looks like war is coming. Seven demigods-- Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Hazel, Leo, and Frank. The seven of the prophecy. They must be separated. Each with different tasks. Annabeth must do her task alone, to avenge her mother-- to follow the Mark of Athena.

Someone tell me why I didn't pick this up earlier. (Probably intimidated by the thickness, which is nothing like me) I got this like, five months ago, aware of how good Rick Riordan was, and didn't pick it up 'till.. last week. Yeah, I know. I took forever. Mainly because I was procrastinating like there was no tomorrow, or it might have to do with the fact that I had too much homework. Idk. The main point is that I took so long on a Rick Riordan book which is such a shocker.

Enough of that. Anyways, I loved loved loved this book. The cover is so gorgeous (has so much meaning behind it just like all other Rick Riordan book covers) and the synopsis just makes your heart leap out of your throat. I originally thought that this was going to be a trilogy, but, guess not. I think that's a good thing! But gee, what a cliffhanger. What an ending. Ermaferkengerd.

What I found ironic and slightly funny was that this included a few myths that I just barely learned. Such as, Echo and Narcissus. We were barely doing Greek mythology in our English Honors class and we learned the story of Helen of Troy, of Echo and Narcissus, (since we're reading The Odyssey atm) and I just crack open the book and see those myths. And it makes so much sense and it's so much funnier.

Character Discussions-
Percy- I LOVE PERCY JACKSON, PERIOD. HE'S FRICKIN AMAZING. He's such a sweet guy! Any girl would want a boyfriend like him.
Annabeth- She's so much more mature, since she's older and all, but she's still the know-it-all daughter of Athena. Yes, love her.
Hazel- Since she's from the past and all it's all kind of awkward. And no matter how cute they may seem, I do not ship her and Frank... Now that I think about it, there were really less Frazel moments in this book.
Piper- She's great. LOL. Yeah, she's really caring and I know she would do anything to save the people she cared about.
Jason- I feel like all he really did in this book was get knocked out. LOLOLOL. But yeah, Jason is amazing. He and Percy make such a great team. If they were single I would ship Percy and Jason so hard it would hurt
Leo-LEO VALDEZ IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWSH HE'S SO AMAZING. The class clown that all the girls love. He's funny and creative and even more, he's a very very very amazing mechanic. And since I want to be an engineer... wow just wow I love Leo and that is all
Frank-Honestly I don't like Frank that much. But he's there when everyone needs him and he's there to save the day whenever people need his.. bravery. But yes. He's great, in his own way.

In this book I was sort of surprised and then again not surprised by my foreshadowing skills. Prophecies aren't supposed to make sense until it's too late, but I found myself making sense of the prophecies before any of the characters did. (; I think Riordan did it on purpose. LOL.

Rick Riordan must be a god. It amazes me how he can weave these words together just like Arachne can weave them webs. That man is truly amazing. I don't know if it's his writing or if it's just the mythology that I love- but yeah. ALL I CARE IS THAT IT'S AMAZING AND YES, IT IS AMAZING.

I can't wait for the next book.

Quotes-

"Ella likes books."

LIANA LIKES BOOKS TOO

"He would remember a pretty girl paying such close attention to him."

Hey hey hey she's got a boyfriend

"I am so gorgeous."

Narcissus- the father of all narcissists. LOL. He's sooo gorgeous.. right.

"I'm the Super-sized McShizzle, man!"

LOLOL WTF

"..only because he'd tried to shield her from the Romans."

AWWWWWW how sweeeeet.

"Team Leo?"

SHHH, DON'T TELL EDWARD?

"Ah... yes. John Green."

ERMAHGERD JOHN GREEN HAHA

"Percy fell face-first into his pizza."

Is it bad that I'm thinking of that one kid who died with pizza sauce on his forehead in Safe Haven?

"I care nothing about this Percy."

I am offended
Everyone cares about Percy

"But they interrupted a Chuck Norris movie!"

AIN'T NOBODY GAT TIME FOR CHUCK NORRIS

"..all children of Athena feared spiders."

DOES THIS MEAN.. OMG RON WEASLEY IS A CHILD OF ATHENA HAHA

"She had nice hair--"

No Leo you're not allowed to say she has nice hair because she has a boyfriend
it's ok Leo bby I'm here for you

"Do you trust me?"
"No!"

Going all Aladdin huh HAHA

"I should have been there for you."

If all the guys in the world were like Percy Jackson then the world would be a better place.

"You would be my Deianira."

EW EW WTF THAT ESCALATED SO QUICKLY

"Hello, brother."

Said Damon omg

"Percy, let me go,"

NO NO NO OMG MY FEEEEEELS BRB CRYING

"Leo, they're not dead."

And at that moment, I swear that Nico di Angelo put hope into all of us.

AGH I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK GOSH

Book Review: The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan.

The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, #2) The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan.
Heroes of Olympus #1.
Book Summary: Seven half-bloods shall answer the call, To storm or fire the world must fall. An oath to keep with a final breath, And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death. Percy is confused. When he awoke from his long sleep, he didn't know much more than his name. His brain fuzz is lingering, even after the wolf Lupa told him he is a demigod and trained him to fight with the pen/sword in his pocket. Somehow Percy manages to make it to a camp for half-bloods, despite the fact that he has to keep killing monsters along the way. But the camp doesn't ring any bells with him. The only thing he can recall from his past is another name: Annabeth Hazel is supposed to be dead. When she lived before, she didn't do a very good job of it. Sure, she was an obedient daughter, even when her mother was possessed by greed. But that was the problem — when the Voice took over her mother and commanded Hazel to use her "gift" for an evil purpose, Hazel couldn't say no. Now because of her mistake, the future of the world is at risk. Hazel wished she could ride away from it all on the stallion that appears in her dreams. Frank is a klutz. His grandmother says he is descended from heroes and can be anything he wants to be, but he doesn't see it. He doesn't even know who his father is. He keeps hoping Apollo will claim him, because the only thing he is good at is archery — although not good enough to win camp war games. His bulky physique makes him feel like an ox, especially infront of Hazel, his closest friend at camp. He trusts her completely — enough to share the secret he holds close to his heart. Beginning at the "other" camp for half-bloods and extending as far as the land beyond the gods, this breathtaking second installment of the Heroes of Olympus series introduces new demigods, revives fearsome monsters, and features other remarkable creatures, all destined to play a part in the Prophecy of Seven.

Liana's Summary: Percy lost all his memory-- except for the fact that his name is Percy Jackson. He also remembers one person from his past: Annabeth. Hazel is supposed to be dead. But she's not. Frank is such a klutz. People make fun of him. When Percy meets Hazel and Frank, the three go on a dangerous quest, and discover a lot of truths.

Rate(1-10): 10

I seriously expected no less from Rick Riordan. I mean, the guy's amazing! If I ever meet him and if he's walking away from me I'll jump on him and tackle him to the ground and ask for an autograph.

Honestly, at some parts I wasn't even paying attention because I was thinking about this other book... (I know, I'm such a book cheater.)but the good thing is that Mister Riordan kept me interested the whole time. And besides, I had my sister by my side to explain things to me. LOL.

Anyways, I was so glad when I saw Percy had a point of view. I miss his first-person POV, though. But I guess third-person would have to do just fine. After all, it's PERCY. -fangirl scream-

And there's Hazel and Frank.

Hazel is pretty cool. Frank? Well, he's not my favorite. But he's still pretty awesome. His Chinese name is Fai. Which is not, I say, NOT a legit Chinese name. Which bothered me the whole time.

There was sure a lot of battle-discussing and planning and just a tiny bit of action. I think most of the action is going to appear in book 3. Gods, that ending. I just have to say that I'm glad I own book 3 already. Phew.

And honestly, that's all I have to say.
Quotes!

"Frank, just keep your eyes open."

"You can be anything."

Oh ho. Really now. Later I figured out Frank's grandma was right ermahgerd

"Two Gods had a horse for a kid?"

"Stop them!"

Okay, so I totally LOVE how antagonists just yell, "STOP THEM!" to their minions to capture the good guys, as if they don't know how to do anything. It's so hilariously entertaining.

"You think Percy Jackson is better than you."

-cough-
Sorry Frank. But I think he is.

"Well, she should be, you dolt! Don't let her get away. You need strong women in your life, if you haven't noticed."

IT'S FINAL. HIS GRANDMOTHER IS FABULOUS.

"And he was unpopular because he was Chinese."

"He was the most beautiful man Hazel had ever seen."

Book Review: The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan.

The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus, #1) The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan.
Heroes of Olympus #1
Book Summary: Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly? Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out. Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

Rate(1-10): 10

Of course I expected no less from Rick Riordan. I've already read enough of his books to know how fabulous he and his writing is.

So, this book has three main characters.

Jason- He's alright, I guess. He didn't really show how he really was because he didn't have his memory the whole time and all.
Piper- Dang, this girl. She's such a tomboy I can't even. I like her! She's awesome.
Leo- This boy. Is. Amazing. He is hothothothothot and his humor ohmygoodness I'm dying

Well, first off, you can't read this series without reading the Percy Jackson series. Unless you are very persistent- then you would have to collect the bits and pieces and put them all together. In this book, Percy is gone. GONE. GONEEEEEEE. If you didn't read Percy Jackson then you wouldn't realize how significant his disappearance is. Ohmygod. Ohmygod. POOR PERCY OMG I CAN'T CONTROL MY EMOTIONS THE CLIFFHANGER AT THE END OF THIS BOOK HOW MANY TIMES CAN I THANK THE LORD FOR HAVING THE NEXT BOOK READY

Alright, the author does a really really really good job of foreshadowing. RIDICULOUSLY good. I was a bit curious about which goddess was going to claim Piper at first, but then when I got to know her better, it became evident. I couldn't really predict Jason though. Mainly because he lost his memory and all. I'm hoping to know him better in book 2.

I am SO looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have Son of Neptune and Mark of Athena next to me, ready to be read. But like, I'm not going to touch them yet. Saving the adventures for later. (;

I can't control my emotions. Percy Annabeth Percy Annabeth Annabeth Percy THEY CAN'T BE SEPARATED AFTER ALL THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH

Quotes!

"Save her!"
Yeah. Drop everything and SAVE HER!

"You're a faun.""Satyr!"

Someone's offended..

"A guy named Percy Jackson."

MY PERCY

"Your mom is a rainbow goddess?"
You say that like it's a bad thing.

"Is my hair on fire?"
I LOVE LEO ALREADY OK

"Charles Beckendorf."

"Suffering? I love suffering! Let's do this!"
image

"Leo was in love."

"..and smack her."
One does not simply smack Greek goddesses okay

"Dang, that girl was fine."
image

"Then Torque picked up a truck and threw it at him."
#RANDOM

"That's what she said."
image

"My friends call me Your Highness."
No way.

"Hephaestus?"
image

"What is Roman?"

"I can smell your fear."

Book Review: The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan.

The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan.
Kane Chronicles #3.
Book Summary: He's b-a-a-ack! Despite their best efforts, Carter and Sadie Kane can’t seem to keep Apophis, the chaos snake, down. Now Apophis is threatening to plunge the world into eternal darkness, and the Kanes are faced with the impossible task of having to destroy him once and for all. Unfortunately, the magicians of the House of Life are on the brink of civil war, the gods are divided, and the young initiates of Brooklyn House stand almost alone against the forces of chaos.

Liana's Summary: Apophis was rising. Now he's back for real. Carter and Sadie Kane have done all they could to save the world two times in a row already, and now they have to do it a third time. With Chaos rising, what can they do? They have no choice but to trust their acquaintances. But, is it a wise choice? Carter has Zia to worry about. Sadie can't decide between Walt and Anubis. Rick Riordan takes you to another world with his riding in this fantastic third and last book of a thriller of the Kane Chronicles!

Rate(1-10): 9.5

I suppose it's not a 10. :3 I don't know. It deserves to be a 9.5. Okay. So then, out of the three of the whole trilogy, I think this was the best. It's one of those trilogies in which the third book is the best. It was really a suspenseful-page-turner-on-every-page one, but still not the most suspenseful. :3 And, I'm happy, because I finished this book in the afternoon! Not 10 at night. (: So I get to make this book review as long as I want to because I'm not nearly exhausted and about to fall asleep on my keyboard. So.

Oh my gods. Imma just use that term now, k. GODS. Anubis is aj;fdlsajasj. Usually, when the girl main character is having trouble deciding between two guys, I choose for her. I go like, HIM, HIM, HIM! But now. Between Anubis and Walt. I can't even. omg. They're both adkljfl;jds. What Rick Riordan did was really smart, and I'm happy. (:

I just love his writing! Omg. Well, I'm really glad that this isn't the last Rick Riordan book I'm reading. I still have The Lost Hero to read, and Son of Neptune as well. After that, though.. well. Let's hope he writes more. I still like Percy Jackson better than any of his books, just because I like Greek Mythology better. It's more interesting. Egyptian mythology always creeped me out. ._. And I just noticed creeped isn't a word. D: Okay. Anyway, yeah. Quote reactions! Yes, now, because the brilliance of Riordan's writing leaves me speechless. Oh yes. I was at my grandmother's house. And then I ran out of tabs. And then I nearly died. omg. Also, I figured out I'm NOT going to the bookstore. aasl;fasjlkaf;sf Hope I live. I have blogs to run. Anyway..

"Did I fancy him? Well, it's complicated. More on that later."
I have a feeling this book is going to be all about Sadie fancying Walt and Anubis. :3

"Evil laughter filled the room.."
Okay, I just have this urge to complain about evil people laughing evilly. Why laugh? fakd;klfsda It's so irritating. Just makes the reader want to whack the evil guy with a gun. (Long story about the whacking gun thing. Legend by Marie Lu.)

"No!" Felix cried.
The room rumbled, much stronger this time.
Khufu screamed and jumped on Carter's head, knocking him to the floor.

Penguins melting and baboons screaming and jumping on people's heads. This scene was quite hilarious.

"The box!" I yelped. "Stop him!"
In a British accent. I can't help but refer to Hermione Granger whenever someone says "STOP HIM!"

"Walt staggered. Suddenly I was supporting him."
Walt! Are you okay?! D:

"Alyssa's staff burst into flames. She screamed and threw it aside."
LOL. I can imagine that. It's all good. I would do that too if my staff burst into flames.

"Very well, Sadie Kane. It's time to die."
Usually when evil people are going to kill you, they don't say it's time to die. But I found this quite amusing so I laughed, which isn't appropriate for the situation.

"The camel grunted and farted."
Oh, Rick Riordan! Bringing in humor in the gravest situation.

"Walt," I said. "guard me."
Whale! Guard you, huh? While you do what?

"I was standing in a dark graveyard with Anubis."
OMG EXCITEMENT IT'S ANUBIS. <3

His smile melted. "They wouldn't let me see you."
What is this tyranny.

"Don't leave." I grasped his hand and held it against my cheek."

AWH. Don't leave, Anubis, please pleaseajflasjlfasj

"Don't leave!"
My burned hands were bandaged, and I was gripping a hairy baboon paw. Khufu looked down at me, rather confused.
"Agh?"
Oh, fab. I was flirting with a monkey.

This is the scene right after the last quote. Aha! (x This made me laugh so freaking hard.

"..it just wasn't fair of Anubis to pop into my dreams, looking all hot and immortal, when poor Walt was risking his life to protect me and getting weaker by the day."
All hot and immortal. omg. Sadie. Your words are too creative.

It worked great, except when Felix yelled down at the mortals, "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!"
omg. alfl;asdj. TROLOL.

"As annoying as she was, I needed her."
AW, CARTER. That's so sweet. Duh, she's your sistah.

"My kittens are alive!"
Omg. Bast! Your kittens? I just had to imagine the Frankenstein part where the dude went like, "IT'S ALIVEEE!"

"There's a picture of him hunting ducks."
Rlly. Ducks. omg.

"..her godly almost-boyfriend Anubis."
Oh god. (: I love Anubis. akdsl;ajfas

"Trust Sadie to nickname part of your soul after poultry,.."
omg, this reminds me of the part in Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain, where he was like, "I DID NOT STEAL YOUR POULTRY GOODS." (x I just had to crack up.

"-your sheut."
Your shoot? what.

"Noble," I agreed. "That's the first word that comes to mind when I think of pigeons."
"Indeed," Horus said.

All hail noble pooping pigeons. I hate pigeons. adkljfal

"Please. War gods do not poop on blankets. Well, except for that one time-"
LOL. Horus. Don't even start.

"Why, Cleo," Bast said with admiration."You have a catty side!"
Which is why I love Bast.

"..that other boy, the godly one."
PSSSSSSH. Say his name Sadie. Say it. KEKKEKE. AAAANUUUBISSS.

"You look..wonderful." I tried to keep a straight face. "You do realize it's not a funeral?"
omg. Carter and his formal clothing.

"You look like your pictures!"
Dumb thing to say.

No, actually, I wanted to say. He's my amazingly hot boy god. Find your own.

Yes. Anubis is your hot boy god. I tend to get excited when Anubis is around. :3

"A few meters away, Carter looked quite awkward as Lacy showed him how to slow-dance."
Oh, Carter!

"Was the god of the dead blushing?"
ooou. You make him blush, Sadie. You doooo.

"..I don't want you to die."
Must.. use.. this.. line.. somewhere.

"A mere child..."
5,000 years old. A mere child.

"Shoe?" I demanded. "Shoe who?"
omg. Shu! (x This so made me laugh.

I raised an eyebrow at Anubis, who looked mortally embarrassed (or perhaps immortally embarrassed).
Haha, nice one! He is a;flsdaj. Fab.

"You are hereby banned from further contact!"
:c Shoo, Shu.

"We hadn't even dated properly. One kiss six months ago, and Anubis was grounded from seeing me forever?"

Shu sucks shoes. :c

"He has no choice!" Shu cried.
Wheeze and cough and faklsjfdj I just had this scene in my mind of some hysterical old man saying that.

"So, shoo!"
Said Shu.

"Sadie!" Anubis tried to fight his way toward me, but the storm was too strong.
I love this part. SADIEEEEE!

"His name was Leonid, and we agreed not to kill each other."
Okay, aha!

"How dare Isis and Horus keep us apart when we weren't even together!"
How dare they. :c

"Perhaps he'd wanted to end our ill-fated relationship and give his blessing for me to date Walt."
That's..fajasjafdsda

"No banana slug! Please!"

omg. Too funny.

What color are the eyes of Anubis?
Brown. Duh.

Of course Sadie would know. :3

"Yes," the demon chucked, his claws tightening around my neck. "Me."
You! I seethed with loathing.
Me. He said with evil delight.
Gosh. Must use this sometime.

"I-I won't be around much longer."
DON'T SAY THOSE HORRID WORDS.

(Okay, unlikely. Sadie wasn't that much of a prize.)
Oh, Carter. Srsly.

"Just for a second I thought he looked like.. No."
And from this point on, I knew what she was about to say. And I knew exactly what was going to happen. EXACTLY. Just this line. I knew it from there.

"..please do not refer to the Devourer of Souls as Poochiekins."
Lord Osiris saying Poochiekins in the same sentence as Devourer of the Souls. adafasljfasl It's just too bizarre to fit together.

"Carter!"

CARTER!

"That disgusted me so much, I staggered into the sunlight and threw up on him."
I just had to laugh. I actually paused from reading just to laugh. It was THAT funny.

"Run or die!"
Oh so now you show your evil side. fkakfds;js

"I'm going to personally stuff you down Ammit's mouth, like a branch into a wood chipper."
Ooou. Go Zia.

"Lord Kane, it's time to die."
Time to die again?!

"Tell me. I must know how to hunt Jelly Babies."
Oh. My goodness. This sentence is too bizarre for a goddess to even say.

"We're still alive. We win."
WOOH! GO SADIE!

"But, Walt.. it's time."

Anyone watch nigahiga? It's timeee. I couldn't help but think of this scene. Sorry 'bout my crapsters gif. I don't know how to do those pretty effects, so you know. This is the "Movies in Minutes:Twilight" one.
I know this scene is serious. But.. IT'S TIME.

"Yes. I can't leave her."
Anubis nodded and squeezed his shoulder. "Neither can I."

Aw! <3

Anubis put his arms around me. His brown eyes were full of compassion.
Really reminds me of this part in HP!

"Anubis sheltered me in his arms, and I sniveled like a little girl."
I have nothing to say. Other than it's so romantic.

"You take his soul and leave? I hate you!"
Gasp. I don't know who's side to be on right now.

"..if-if you're sure you don't hate me."
So dramatic. I needa cry. Omg.

"He sliced his head across my gut."
o__o I was forced to pause.

I reached into the Duat and pulled out and ostrich feather.
"Really?" I yelled.

HORUS PLEASE HALP NOW.

"I'd imagined this many times, but I was so unprepared, I didn't act very cool about it."
Imagine, huh. (;

[Yes, Sadie. I actually said that. Don't gasp so loud.]
Aw, what a big brother! <3

"Oh, I can take it from here. You guys did great. Tas!"
omg. NO!

"Tas!" she yelled.
"Nooo!"

YESSSS. Oh. In case you didn't know. Tas, is for 'bind' in Ancient Egyptian.

Sadie and Bes laughed like crazy. Me, I was too busy yelling,  "Crevice! Look out! Flaming geyser! Go left!"
Oh, Carter!

One of the old dudes kept screaming, "My pudding!" for no apparent reason.
Pudding is good.

"We have cooooookies!"
He's still insane. :c

Still me, they had said in unison.

Yeah?

"She's an old man," he muttered.
:c Poor Carter.

"Don't make me sound ridiculous!" I shouted. "I'm not ridiculous!"
Apparently you are. (:

"No one harms Sadie Kane."
Prince Charming to the rescue. <3

"Shut up, Father."

I laughed. (x This is too hilarious to say casually. I guess that's just Anubis, then? (:

"Idiots," he rasped. "Sahei."

You're an old git! You idiot! djfkla

"Good night."
Be the heroine, pass out, and before that, don't forget to say good night!

"I was the Avenger."
AVENGERS.

"That's okay. I finally came to my senses and found the right girl..."
(: Go Bes! Even though dwarf-hippo babies are unnerving.

"That copycat!"
Aha! Right in front of the cat goddess. (x Calling Horus a copycat. Pshh.

"Instead of taking his hand, I punched him in the chest."
Wise move, Sadie. (x

Rick Riordan is seriously the only author that has been able to make me stop reading for a second and laugh at something. Laugh out loud, not silently to myself. Out loud that I'm getting a six pack. I just admire his writing so much.

I liked Sadie so much better in this book than the Red Pyramid. kfda;sdj I got to know her better. (: But still. Carter.

I think after this book, I realized that hard cover books aren't so bad after all. (: But the covers get damaged so easily. :c And they hurt you. But yeah. I have to say I loved the Kane Chronicles. Carter forever! (: Oh yes. And Anubis as well.

Book Review: The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan.

The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles, #2)The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan.
Kane Chronicles #2.
Book Summary: Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister Sadie have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven't given them much time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, which has become a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet - the chaos snake Apophis - is rising. If they don't prevent him from breaking free in a few days' time, the world will come to an end. In other words, it's a typical week for the Kane family. To have any chance of battling the Forces of Chaos, the Kanes must revive the sun god Ra. But that would be a feat more powerful than any magician has ever accomplished. First they have to search the world for the three sections of the Book of Ra, then they have to learn how to chant its spells. Oh, and did we mention that no one knows where Ra is exactly? Narrated in two different wisecracking voices, featuring a large cast of new and unforgettable characters, and with adventures spanning the globe, this second installment in the Kane Chronicles is nothing short of a thrill ride.

Liana's summary: Apophis is rising. Carter and Sadie Kane need to awaken Ra, the sun god, to make things right again. When they go on their dangerous quest, they must face sacrifice. Rick Riordan writes a book in which the reader can learn  about Egyptian mythology and enjoy a good story at the same time.

Rate(1-10): 8.9
I could not. Put this down. It's so entertaining! And Sadie is just hilarious. In the first book, The Red Pyramid, I liked Carter so much better because Sadie seemed like such a brat. In this book, though, (Don't know why I was so eager to get it, but I got it anyway.) I liked Sadie much better. On the Anubis and Walt debate thing, for once, I can't decide which guy. For me, I like Anubis, but he's scary. D; Kinda. Since he's the god of funerals and all. But for Sadie, BOTH. Weasels are sick, I like Zebras. You'll see.
Since it's so late, I don't think that this review is going to be pretty long. Um. Even if I got to know Sadie a lot more, I still like Carter. So. Here's some quote-reactions! May contain minor spoilers. MINOR.

"Personally, I wanted to punch Desjardins in the face and set his beard on fire, but..."
OMG. This is too hilarious. See why I like Sadie a bit better now?
"I'm not plunging to my death with LOSER painted on my head!"
Which is why I love Carter.
"I threw my arms around Carter and let out a sob."
AWW. She does these things when she's worried or really relieved.

"I hate you."
I HATE HIM TOO.

"Welcome, children," he called across the water. " Come. Join me for the end of the world."
o_________o

That's all I bookmarked, actually. I'm slacking off on the bookmarking, but hey, it makes my review long, which is cool. (: There was this part where --- came out of nowhere and Sadie went like, "YOU." In a really loathing voice and --- goes all delighted, like, "ME!" Which I thought was too funny to bear. I should use that in my writing.

Rick Riordan is one of the people who inspire me to write. His writing is really creative, and every time he starts a book, and you read the first line of the first chapter, you want to read more. Immediately. Which is why I couldn't put this book down. In his creations, Percy Jackson, Kane Chronicles, and the Lost Hero(Which I haven't read. YET.) he always starts off with a chapter title that makes you wonder. Like, ie, "I vaporize my math teacher." And you would be like, "What does that even mean?" And then you read the entire chapter, and you completely get it. And then the next chapter has something equally creative, and you keep reading until you finish. I respect that talent.

So then, I'm not going to read Serpent's Shadow just yet. Going to read Pride and Prejudice. Saving it for the weekend! And I don't want it to end. D;

As I have said earlier, this book review is short. So have a nice day! Bye~
