Book Review: The Librarian's Daughter by M.M. Gavillet

The Librarian's Daughter: The Story of Abi VanHavenThe Librarian's Daughter by M.M. Gavillet
Book Summary: Not All Books Were Meant To Be Checked Out…

Magic scepters, enchanted wands, and poisoned darts aren’t usual implements used by librarians—unless you’re in charge of imprisoning bad wizards, renegade sorceresses and evil magicians into books that aren’t ordinary books. Keeping order among the enchanted community isn’t what nineteen-year-old Abi VanHaven had in mind of a career.
Finding out your mother was a librarian isn’t earth shattering. At least that’s what Abi thought. Everything changed when Abi received a letter from her mother that died before she had any memory of her. What was to end with her mother has now spilled into Abi’s life.
Now hunted by Victoria-a once librarian turned evil sorceress, Abi must find and secure a powerful scepter her mother took from Victoria. Abi isn’t alone on her quest. With the help of two eccentric witches, a drop-dead-gorgeous siren, a misunderstood gnome and the guardians—an organization devoted to protecting libraries that hold incarcerated criminals, Abi finds herself between good and evil and also the blurred edges between friendship and love.

Liana's Summary: Abi VanHaven, after the death of her mother, is sent to live with her Aunt. But after her aunt dies, she is sent to her cousin Jenna, but heartlessly kicked out. She lives with her cousin Meg and her suspicious and controlling husband, Nate, until she finds somewhere else to live and a job. And that's when she finds out her mother was a librarian, and is immersed into the world of sirens, treelords, guardians, and the such.

Book Review: I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore.

I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1)I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore.
Book Summary: Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books - but we are real.

Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. We have lived among you without you knowing.

But they know.

They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.

I am Number Four.

I am next.

Liana's Summary: The first three are dead. John is Number Four. He knows he's next. But there's nothing to do but run. Henri takes John to Ohio, where John unexpectedly falls in love and makes a best friend, refusing to leave. But Henri is insistent. However, John can get his way. As his Legacies develop, so does John's exhilaration..

Rate(1-10): 8

So, my friend was fangirling really hard about this book. (Yeah, you, Ivy. LOL) And of course, I decided that I needed to give this a try. I've been meaning to read this for 11 months already. Don't know why I didn't pick it up earlier..

Before I read it, I knew it was some sort of action-y, fantasy-ish, *vague arm motion* sorta thing. Mainly because of Ivy because she always reads these kinds of books It's actually like this fantasy-ish, multiverse-ish, thing. Pretty cool when you think about it. The whole setting is sort of like the setting in Elizabeth Norris's UNRAVELING. You find out what Lorien Legacies are when you read the book. I'd tell you, but since I found out for myself, I guess it's only fair that you do, too.

I don't know if it's my foreshadowing skills getting tougher, or what, but I was laughing when this one character died--- even though it was supposedly sad, but I was just laughing because I KNEW IT. I knew he was a goner when he first got introduced to the book! Inside, I'm happy that my foreshadowing abilities have developed this far. Maybe I'm an alien...

Anyways, character discussions!

John- He's a fairly likable protagonist. Realistic at times and unrealistic at other times, not counting the magical legacy parts. Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. Yeah, likable main character.

Henri- He's like an overprotective father. I guess. He can be a little pushy sometimes and he's not stern at all. If the book didn't say that he was John's elder, everyone would have thought that they were siblings.

Sam- I like how John made a friend that was willing to risk a lot. Sam is pretty cool. The story would have done fine BUT without Sam, I think John would have been different.

Sarah- I don't really like Sarah. I mean, she makes the romance happen but is she really a necessary character? She's like a damsel in distress. It's kind of annoying when you think about it. She's a really nice girl, but helpless and just, ugh.
-----------
Overall, this book was pretty good (finished in one sitting and I didn't even need a bookmark), and I can't wait to pick up the next book.

Book Review: The Wizard Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. (Heir Chronicles #2)

The Wizard Heir (The Heir Chronicles, #2)The Wizard Heir by Cinda Willaims Chima.
(Heir Chronicles #2)
Book Summary: Sixteen-year-old Seph McCauley has spent the past three years getting kicked out of one exclusive private school after another. And it's not his attitude that's the problem: it's the trail of magical accidents - lately, disasters - that follow in his wake. Seph is a wizard, orphaned and untrained, and his powers are escalating out of control.

After causing a tragic fire at an after-hours party, Seph is sent to the Havens, a secluded boys' school on the coast of Maine. Gregory Leicester, the headmaster, promises to train Seph in magic and initiate him into his mysterious order of wizards. But Seph's enthusiasm dampens when he learns that training comes at a steep cost, and that Leicester plans to use his students' powers to serve his own mysterious agenda.

Liana's Summary: Seph is a wizard, always getting trouble everywhere. When Seph is sent to the Havens, he is welcomed by Gregory Leicester-- but he knows it's not just a welcome. Leicester has something to do-- and he's going to use Seph to do it. Until Seph agrees, Leicester will make his time there an utter nightmare.

Rate(1-10): 4

I know that is such a low rating. The lowest rating I've given in a while, actually, since Daughter of Smoke and Bone.. I just found myself zoning out even when I was paying attention. The plot pacing wasn't agreeing with my reading habits.

Well, I took forever on this book, and maybe it's due to my procrastination, or due to the fact that the plot is just not engaging at all. That's it, I'm not going to continue with the series. I skimmed the last quarter of this book. Like, literally, just kept flipping the pages so fast like it was an effort to fan myself.

At first, after I read the first book, I thought that this series was going to be one of those series in which the story starts to get better after the first book. But actually, not really. For those of you who've read my reviews for James Patterson's WITCH AND WIZARD series, you know how much I despise his writing style. Somehow, I can't help but think Cinda Williams Chima is just the lady version of JP. Just no. I mean, I like the whole general setting of the story, I like how there are wizards, warriors, and enchanters and all, but I guess it's just not really my type of story.

Seph is a good main character though, although I couldn't help but be annoyed at him in a few parts of this book.

Gorgeous covers though, LOL.

That's really all I have to say. You might love this series, or you might hate it.

Quotes..

"Eighteen,"

Lol loser

"You have a face like a god..."

So awks how would she know what a god looks like

"Seph had only seen his guardian two or three times."
What kind of guardian is that

"By next year, you'll know all you need to know."

All he 'needs' to know

"You are required to link your Weirstone to mine."

"It was so normal."

omg Seph just stfu already

"Oh, all right, Jack. I'll kiss you. But just this once."

LOLOL I CAN'T

"You shine like a house lit up for a party."
SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND

Book Review: Splintered by A.G. Howard.

Splintered (Splintered, #1)Splintered by A.G. Howard.
Book Summary: This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.
Liana's Summary: Alyssa can hear them- the bugs and the flowers. Apparently, it runs through the females in her family, starting from her great-great-great grandmother, Alice, the Alice that went to Wonderland. Alyssa never plans on stepping through that mirror, to go to Wonderland. She never meant to take Jeb, her best friend, with her. Down into the rabbit hole, following the White Rabbit. Or was it even a rabbit in the first place? As romance develops, so does Alyssa's independence, when she realizes no one is going to rescue her. She's going to have to rescue herself, along with Jeb. But can she do it?

Rate(1-10): 9.5

When I first heard about this book, I was pretty excited to read it. Nope, I am not disappointed. Actually, I'm very, very impressed, hence the high rating. Actually, when I first heard about this book, I didn't even know it was an Alice in Wonderland retelling. I mainly wanted to read this because it was a new release in the YA category. And, knowing me, I go for all the new releases.

First off, the cover. The cover is so cool. It looks like it should be scary (extra scary for me since I despise bugs like crazy) but it's really not.
The synopsis is very, very captivating. An Alice in Wonderland retelling? How cool is that?! This is actually the first and only one I've read. Honestly I'm kinda sick of princess retellings. LOL.

Okay, so. One of the best things about this story is that the main character, Alyssa, is actually a descendant of THE Alice. Alyssa just goes to Wonderland AFTER Alice has visited it. Which is just so cool. I mean, the Disney version is kinda off..

There was character development in Alyssa that I noticed and liked, and I love the fact that she KNOWS she's a different person afterwards. She was pretty useless in the beginning and she couldn't be alone. But afterwards, when she realized that no prince in shining armor was gonna save her, that she had to save herself, I liked her as a main character that much more. You can see her strength building up throughout the story.

The beginning of this book was sort of slow, but maybe that's because I took forever to read this due to my procrastination.

There were many plot twists, plot twists that just make you gasp out loud. I swear, A.G. Howard, what a great job! And this is a debut novel too! Her writing is just absolutely amazing. There was suspense and adventure, and that's what I love in a book!

The romance was perfect, and I think a love triangle has already developed. Although, right now, it's clear who she wants to be with. Of course this is a series (series are the shit right now, I don't even know why), and tbh I can't wait to see what happens in the second book (although this would have done fine as a stand-alone), which I just found out a few seconds ago is called Unhinged and will be released in 2014. Pretty cool title, right?

Overall, this was one hell of an awesome ride! Definitely a recommendation!

Quotes!

"..weaving our fingers together."

"Hi, Tommy-toes,"

omg that nickname I can't

"You'll have to kill me to get to her,"

d'aaaaaaw sho cute

"I'll always come back for you, Al."

"Elfin knight, do you wish for pleasure on your quest? I can provide it, if you so desire."

ehl oh ehl awkward
I probably laughed harder at this line than I should have. Maybe because I have a dirty mind and I'm a terrible person. LOL.

"Your voice is a song. Say it again."

"Hands off, you son of a bug!"

It's all good no one needs to remind me why I love Jeb

"..when I can touch you instead." He presses his mouth to mine.

THIS IS SO CUTE I'M GONNA DIE

"You're not to touch my precious booty, remember? Get thee behindeth me, Jebbeth."

oh my effing cheezits

"We don't have that kind of time.."

cos' ain't nobody gat time fo time

"No matter what happens, we'll find each other again. You're my lifeline. You always will be."

"You judge too harshly. I do want to save my friends. It just happens that I can save myself in the process."

Why does that quote sound so familiar

"Have I commented on your loveliness tonight?"

No. Just no

"..I turn into his embrace and hug him in the moonlight."

UNDAH THE MOONLIGHT AS WE STARE IN THE SEAAA THE WORDS YOU WHISPERED I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE
lol this is q

"You want me. Admit it."

Book Review: Invisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan.

InvisibilityInvisibility by Andrea Cremer and David Levithan.
Book Summary: Stephen has been invisible for practically his whole life — because of a curse his grandfather, a powerful cursecaster, bestowed on Stephen’s mother before Stephen was born. So when Elizabeth moves to Stephen’s NYC apartment building from Minnesota, no one is more surprised than he is that she can see him. A budding romance ensues, and when Stephen confides in Elizabeth about his predicament, the two of them decide to dive headfirst into the secret world of cursecasters and spellseekers to figure out a way to break the curse. But things don’t go as planned, especially when Stephen’s grandfather arrives in town, taking his anger out on everyone he sees. In the end, Elizabeth and Stephen must decide how big of a sacrifice they’re willing to make for Stephen to become visible — because the answer could mean the difference between life and death. At least for Elizabeth.

Liana's Summary: Stephen has been invisible for his whole entire life-- no one can see him. He's pretty sure of that. However, when he meets Elizabeth, who can see him, his life takes a whole new turn. As the two fall in love, Elizabeth finds out that she's the only one that can see Stephen-- and there's a reason behind it.

Rate(1-10): 6.5

First of all, thanks to PenguinTeen for distributing this ARC.

Okay, so. I am fans of both Andrea Cremer and David Levithan, perhaps a bigger fan of David Levithan. I have met them both an they're both very nice people! Anyways, I know their general writing style, and Invisibility was sort of like a mash-up of their styles, which I found quite interesting to read. I'm not really surprised that they wrote a book together, though, since David Levithan co-writes with nearly everybody-- which is really cool!

Let's start out by talking about the things that I liked about this book.

-The cover. I mean, the cover is GORGEOUS. It's a cover that draws people's attention at first sight and makes them want to read it.
-The title. Something called INVISIBILITY would just draw you to it, right? Wrong? Right.
-The general idea of someone being invisible, and then suddenly being visible to this one person. It has David-Levithan-style dripping off of it, I mean, really! On the cover, it says "David Levithan, Author of Every Day". I've read Every Day, and I swear, that was a good book! And that's the only thing of David's I've read, actually. But out of all his works, Every Day just so happened to be on this cover. Maybe because Every Day's main character had the same general.. *waves hands in a vague motion*. David Levithan said that he wrote Every Day just to answer two questions: What would it be like to have a new identity every day? What would it be like to fall in love with a person who changed every day? And I have a feeling that he wrote Invisibility to answer the question, What's it like to be invisible to everyone, and then suddenly be visible one day?
-Laurie. I love that kid, LOL. Without him, I bet that Stephen and Liz's romance would have never happened.

And that list just sort of stops.. Because there were things that I didn't like, too.

-The plot. It was too flat, really. Flat and quiet.. (The end was actually where everything barely started to get good) I don't know if it's just me that's developed a thing for crazy and violent, action packed stories, or if it's just this book. This book just evolved around the apartment building and the two characters falling in love and both of them dealing with Stephen's, the main character's, invisibility. The whole entire plot moved really slowly, but Andrea Cremer's 'curse' and 'magic' thingies sort of spiced it up-- even still, I don't think it did much.
-Elizabeth. I mean, she's a great girl. But I don't really like her. I'm afraid she is one of those 'I-have-powers-but-I'm-in-denial' characters. She annoys me. Without Laurie, I don't even think she and Stephen could have continued with the relationship.. She's too reckless sometimes, and I appreciate that.. but..... *vague hand gesture (again)*

As you can see, my likes and dislikes have evened out the rating for this book. Overall, it was fine.

Book Review: The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima.

The Warrior Heir (The Heir Chronicles, #1) The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima.
Book Summary: An epic battle between good and evil...

Before he knew about the Roses, 16-year-old Jack lived an unremarkable life in the small Ohio town of Trinity. Only the medicine he has to take daily and the thick scar above his heart set him apart from the other high schoolers. Then one day Jack skips his medicine. Suddenly, he is stronger, fiercer, and more confident than ever before. And it feels great - until he loses control of his own strength and nearly kills another player during soccer team tryouts.

Soon, Jack learns the startling truth about himself: he is Weirlind, part of an underground society of magical people who live among us. At their helm sits the feuding houses of the Red Rose and the White Rose, whose power is determined by playing The Game - a magical tournament in which each house sponsors a warrior to fight to the death. The winning house rules the Weir.

As if his bizarre heritage isn't enough, Jack finds out that he's not just another member of Weirlind - he's one of the last of the warriors - at a time when both houses are scouting for a player.

Liana's Summary: Jack is completely oblivious to what he is, to what he can do-- until one day, he accidentally forgets to take his medicine, and almost kills someone during soccer tryouts. Soon, and perhaps not soon enough, Jack discovers the truth of what he is- Weirlind. Things get stranger and stranger, and some people in his life turn out to be not who they say they are.

Rate(1-10): 8

Well, let's just say that this doesn't fit into the category of 'Liana's-normal-genre.' It was great and all, don't get me wrong, but I just didn't like it that much. I had this huge phase back then in which my favorite genre was Fantasy, but now I don't even know, since I'm so sick of Dystopia and I can't stand most Contemporary stories. I guess you would call me a picky reader..

Anyways, I just finished this book this morning, hence the pajama-wearing at this moment.

This is my first Cinda Williams Chima book, and I think I've got the general idea of what her writing is like. And yes, I'm looking forward to reading the next book. (If you're reading this, Ivy, then hehehehehehe)

The main character. Jack. First of all, that name just makes me think of Titanic and that just makes me cry.. Okay, so if he were a girl-- let's just speculate here, so bear with me-- he would be one of those annoying female protagonists that find out something magical about themselves and are in constant denial throughout the whole entire book, despite all the evidence that comes popping up. And since Jack is a boy that discovers something magical about himself, he just reminds me of Harry Potter. There's only a small moment of denial in the beginning and then they just adapt to be warriors or wizards or whatever. I don't know why a girl is always in annoying-denial-phase throughout the whole story, while a boy is so adapting. It's getting on my nerves.. omg. Which is why I absolutely despise contemporary fantasy. (Harry Potter doesn't count because JK Rowling is typically a goddess of writing.) All the characters have great depth, and all of them are interesting-- I just found Jack the most interesting, him being the protagonist and all.

At first sight, I didn't think that I would ever give this book a try. But here I am, done with the book and typing a review. Maybe because it didn't look like the type of book I would like.

I'm sorry, but the romance wasn't good at all. Like many other authors, I have a feeling that CWC just added the romance in there because she could. Just a few kisses here and there, boom! Now romance readers would love it! I mean, I really appreciate the kissing scenes because they were ridiculously cute, but the book could have done well without it.

And yeah. That's that.

Book Review: Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood.

Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood.
(Cahill Witch Chronicles Book 1)
Book Summary: Everybody knows Cate Cahill and her sisters are eccentric. Too pretty, too reclusive, and far too educated for their own good. But the truth is even worse: they’re witches. And if their secret is discovered by the priests of the Brotherhood, it would mean an asylum, a prison ship—or an early grave.

Before her mother died, Cate promised to protect her sisters. But with only six months left to choose between marriage and the Sisterhood, she might not be able to keep her word... especially after she finds her mother’s diary, uncovering a secret that could spell her family’s destruction. Desperate to find alternatives to their fate, Cate starts scouring banned books and questioning rebellious new friends, all while juggling tea parties, shocking marriage proposals, and a forbidden romance with the completely unsuitable Finn Belastra.

If what her mother wrote is true, the Cahill girls aren’t safe. Not from the Brotherhood, the Sisterhood—not even from each other.

Liana's Summary: Cate is left with the responsibility of taking care of her sisters. That's what her mother made her promise. The burden of taking care of her sisters is already overwhelming, and even worse? She has to make sure they're safe. Safe from the Brothers and safe for the rest of the society that hates them. They're witches. Cate is faced with difficult decisions that she has to make and there has to be sacrifices.

Rate(1-10): 9

This book was fabulous. I loved it. Honestly, the only reason I wanted to read this book was because I heard that the guy character was some sexy beast. LOL. Well, I wasn't disappointed. HE WAS SO FREAKIN' GORGEOUS HOLY SHIT. Well, he's not really my type of guy, but what I like about him is that he's so kind and caring and he's a MUSCLY GARDENER. How hot is that? He's hot in a realistic type of way.

Anyways, along with hot-guy-gardener Finn Belastra, I liked this whole entire plot as well. Usually, I don't like witches because judgmental guys are so sexist, back then. I think it's set in 1896. Well. Sexist men and burning witches. It's that time.. back then.

Anyways, character discussions.

Cate- Cate seems too old for her age. Especially since her mother has burdened her with so much, although intentionally. Reading this, you can't help but think, poor Cate. She gets frustrated easily and what annoys me about her is that she treats her younger sisters like babies and like they can't handle even the smallest detail. And she's also very indecisive. What I like about her are her abilities and powers and her maturity-- wait, I don't really like that she seems like an old boor. LOL.
Maura- Maura is just seriously so annoying. Her and Cate get into the most fights and Maura is like, I'M OLD ENOUGH NOW BLAH BLAH BLAH and she's so naive it just gets freaking annoying. But in the end, I hope she'll realize that Cate was right.
Tess- Tess, the youngest out of the three sisters, is too mature for her own age as well. She's quiet and polite and she'll never lose her temper. When Cate is distressed with Maura she can always go to Tess, because Tess is very understanding. I think out of the three sisters I like her the most.
Paul- When Paul first came in I'm just like.. wait. Is this the hot guy that everyone's been rambling about? Apparently not. He just seems so annoying. (Everyone seems annoying LOLOL) He flirts with Cate relentlessly as though he can't see her hesitance. And before he even proposed he acts like she's his fiance already..
Finn- Finn. The nerd with glasses that loves to read books. Finn, with cherry red lips and crazy messy hair and freckles that seem to cover every inch of his muscly body. The sexy gardener. Yep, that's him. He kinda sorta reminds me of Jem Carstairs from TID by Cassandra Clare, and most of you know that I'm crazy over Jem and infatuated with him to a crazy level. He's basically my fictional boyfriend. HA! Anyways, Finn reminds me of Jem because he's way too kind for his own good and he loves the girl truly and innocently. Their hearts are both pure and kind and omg I'll just stop now. I think y'all get the point that Finn is a true gentleman
Elena- I dislike her, period. At first I thought she would have been like the evil stepmother type, but even worse, she ended up being nice. And full of secrets.

Quotes.

That's my motto

"..I smack into someone."

I think it's time for the sexy guy character to come into the story

"I'm your new gardener."

Sexy.. muscly.. gardener boy!

Don't we all know at least one insufferable know-it-all?

Book Review: The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde.

The Last Dragonslayer (The Last Dragonslayer, #1) The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde.

Can I just say it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be? I mean, it was okay. But honestly it shouldn't be in the Young Adult shelves at the library. It should be in the Juvenile Fiction section. The cover is, indeed, very alluring and wonderfully made, but really.. the story isn't as good as the cover is.

Jasper Fforde is another James Patterson, I'm just gonna say that. For those people who have read my James Patterson reviews, y'all know wassup. My point is, Jasper Fforde's writing style is a bit juvenile. I really dislike writing negative reviews and all, but like.. this book just didn't come to me as good. I wanted more dragon action and medieval stuff (because yes, I am a dragon fan) but it just concentrated on Kazam and the society and this alternate universe where things are magical. I sort of consider it Dystopian.

As for Jennifer, the main character. She would have been better off as a boy. Jasper Fforde should have made her a boy. I don't know why, but I just know that she would have been better off as a boy. LOL.

Maybe you'll love it, maybe you'll like it, and maybe you won't. People have different opinions and that's all I really have to say.

Quotes.

"You are the last Dragonslayer."

LOL WHAT

"You may leave now."

So.. dismissive. LOL

"Humans," he scoffed.

DRAGONS, LIANA SCOFFS. Idk. Why are other species so prejudiced against humans and look at them with disgust gosh

"Perhaps it was my destiny.."

AIN'T NO SUCH THING AS DESTINY

Well, that's that.
It may be that I had a really bad stuffy nose while reading this, or my phone was exploding with texts while I was reading this, or that my eyes were about to fall out of their sockets while reading this, or I was just sick of reading books without romance while reading this, or it may be that I just dislike the author's writing style, or it may be that I skimmed some paragraphs.. or whatnot, but I just really didn't like this book. It may have been the author's writing style. But yeah, I'm done!

Book Review: Liesel & Po by Lauren Oliver.

Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver Liesel & Po by Lauren Oliver.
Book Summary: Liesl lives in a tiny attic bedroom, locked away by her cruel stepmother. Her only friends are the shadows and the mice, until one night a ghost appears from the darkness. It is Po, who comes from the Other Side. Both Liesl and Po are lonely, but together they are less alone.
That same night, an alchemist's apprentice, Will, bungles an important delivery. He accidentally switches a box containing the most powerful magic in the world with one containing something decidedly less remarkable.
Will's mistake has tremendous consequences for Liesl and Po, and it draws the three of them together on an extraordinary journey.
From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver comes a luminous and magnificent novel that glows with rare magic, ghostly wonders, and a true friendship that lights even the darkest of places.
Liana's Summary: Liesel's father and birth mother are both dead. All she has left are her stepmother and her stepsister, and all they do is send her tiny morsels of food and keep her locked up in the attic. Will is the alchemist's apprentice. But does he even want to be? Po is a ghost. It's not a boy or a girl. At least, it doesn't know. When the three cross paths they go on an adventure, no matter how many bad guys come to stop them, each desperate for different things. (Or not!)

Rate(1-10): 8
Yes, people. You guessed right. I'm such a Lauren Oliver fan that I would read all her books, even the ones for children and in the Juvenile section in the library. Yes, I love her that much. And yes, Liesel & Po was just a temporary tranquilizer for me to stop throwing tantrums about more Lauren Oliver. (But what I really need is Requiem)

Anyways, about this book. I liked it, actually. But since I'm such a wuss I really can't stand the ghosts. Seriously.. LOL.

So Liesel is just a poor little orphaned girl who just lost her dad, and she's basically locked in the attic. Will is an orphan boy, a bit of a klutz, but he's likable anyway. Po is an it. (Most of the story, heheheh) Po is a ghost and Liesel doesn't know if it's a boy or a girl. Yeah. Po is awesome. In the end of the story I honestly think Lauren Oliver wanted to make this a Lena-Julian-Alex thing. In little kid version, LOL.

I think this story is a mix of Cinderella and The Twelve Dancing Princesses (Barbie movie version, anyways) with a mix of Lauren-Oliver-style. Which was pretty cool.

Lauren Oliver herself said in the Acknowledgements that this was the most personal book that she'd ever written and it means a lot to her. And I commend her for writing such an amazing book. In 2 freaking months. Only.

Oh yes! The illustrations were amazing as well. Very detailed.

Well, overall, I think you can tell I enjoyed this.
Quotes!

"Are you a girl or a boy?"

LOL WHAT
"Po had remembered how to lie."

omg my feels
"There is no time for that."

AIN'T NOBODY GAT TIME FO DAT
"And then he stepped on a bit of broken glass."

Of course. -__-

"He was enjoying the girl's attention."

HAHAHAHA omg Will.

"You are to find the Lady Premiere.."

Holy shit. Another betrayal.

"..somewhat annoyed that the ghosts had been Liesel's first concern."

Is that jealousy I smell? LOL.

Book Review: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, # 2) Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
Book Summary: Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Liana's Summary: It's been a few weeks since Lena's sixteenth birthday. They've been counting down, ever since they met, and before, too. Lena's been dreading it. Would she turn dark, or light? But when it's time, things turn into a special occasion. Lena has to be claimed at age 17 instead. What will she do? Macon told her once to claim herself. So that's what she'll try to do. Ethan is confused and lost and hurt when Lena starts to pull away- and he doesn't know why. With the help of Link and Liv, Ethan tries to make things right-- or at least find out what's happening.

Rate(1-10): 8.5

Well, let me thank +Cindy for lending me her book so I could read it. THANKS CINDY. I DIDN'T RUIN YOUR BOOK. YAY. I TOOK FOREVER THOUGH.

To be honest, I only read this book for the sake of reading it. LOL. If that makes any sense at all. So, recently, as y'all know (or not), the movie for Beautiful Creatures just recently came out, and of course I watched it. I wasn't satisfied with a few things but I will not elaborate further because this is not a movie review blog. Ha. Anyways, as much as I hate to admit, if I didn't watch the movie then I would have been completely and totally lost in reading this book.
Some say that this book is better than book 1, but in my opinion, they're the same. Still pretty good though. I just feel like the only difference is that the authors added a lot more concepts into this book. I find it pretty cool how Kami and Margaret are co-writers. So awesome. Ermahgerd.

Can I just say, I'm glad that Ethan narrates? I really disliked Lena in this book, something I never thought I would do, based on the first book. Lena is starting to scare and annoy the crap out of me. PLEASE LENA JUST GO AWAY NOW AND LET ETHAN BE HIS MORTAL SELF AND LET HIM HANG OUT WITH HIS NEW MORTAL FRIEND

Ridley. She scares me. Really, really really really really scares me. So does John. Link is annoying. Liv is pretty cool. Just another version of Hermione Granger. (; I think I'm done..

Quotes!

"Which made me hate him."

Oh-kay.

"I have a lot of experience, you know."

"Good-bye, Ethan."

"There are always choices, Macon."

"Why do you say 'no offense' when you're trying to offend me?"

I should say this more often. LOL.

"..and leaned down.."

"I pulled away so fast,.."

"My mom was the girl in the visions."

"Liv was gone."

"Macon's face."

ERMAHGERD
"It was decided."
