Book Review: Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne.

Monument 14 (Monument 14 #1) Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne.
Book Summary: Your mother hollers that you’re going to miss the bus. She can see it coming down the street. You don’t stop and hug her and tell her you love her. You don’t thank her for being a good, kind, patient mother. Of course not—you launch yourself down the stairs and make a run for the corner.
Only, if it’s the last time you’ll ever see your mother, you sort of start to wish you’d stopped and did those things. Maybe even missed the bus.
But the bus was barreling down our street, so I ran.
Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.
In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

Liana's Summary: When there's a huge hailstorm, everything goes wrong. More than a dozen people dead. 14 survivors. Refugees. Taking refuge in a superstore. When there's a chemical spill outside, things go very, very wrong. And it's only safe to stay inside the store, and wait. Everything could be ruined. But then again, it couldn't be.

I've been wanting to read this book for such a long time! And I finally picked it up now.

To be honest, the thing that attracted me most was the title. And the cover. And the synopsis. They were all pretty flipping awesome.

Anyways, it's basically all about a group of kids that were on a bus. And they got into an accident. And took refuge in a store. And yeah.

This book taught me a lot about refugees and survival and how you have to live with who you live with even if you don't really want to live with them. And, a bunch of kids of different age levels? Pretty much sums up that whole thing. They all annoy me so bad.

The narrator, Dean, is the main character, obviously. And he's alright. But I don't really like him. This whole book is basically his 'journal' and I know that because he keeps saying "I had to write this down because I'm a writer" blah blah blah. Which is good. Because writing is good. I seriously don't know how he looks like. He described himself as tall, green eyes, dark hair. That seemed hot until he said he needed to work out. I don't know. I can't imagine him fat. So I had this really hard time. omg.

I've been away from the Dystopian genre for a while, but, hey! I'm back!

Honestly, I can't really call it Dystopian. It's more Futuristic to me. Since it's set in 2024 and all.

The author is pretty good at coming up with ideas! Anyways, that's all I have to say. Quotes! (A few. Again.)

Note: Since this is an ARC Edition of this book the quotes might not be the same with the published edition's.

"..and used wild mushrooms for toilet paper."

omg. How do you use mushrooms for toilet paper.

"And I hadn't."

CAN I SLAP THIS BOY

"Nice abs, man," Brayden said. "You work out?"

That is so mean. LOL. Now I know Dean has no abs.

"She wanted me?"

LOL NO.

And yeah, that's it! What did you think of this review? (:

  2. I've seen this one around but I never pick it up. I'm really picky on Dystopians but you gave it a high rating so I should check it out. Actually it was between Article 5 and this one and I picked up Article 5. Anyway, great review! :)
