Book Review: To Be Perfectly Honest by Sonya Sones

To Be Perfectly Honest: A Novel Based on an Untrue StoryTo Be Perfectly Honest by Sonya Sones
Book Summary:
Her friends
have a joke about her:
How can you tell if Colette is lying?

Her mouth is open.

Fifteen-year-old Colette is addicted to lying. Her shrink says this is because she’s got a very bad case of Daughter-of-a-famous-movie-star Disorder—so she lies to escape out from under her mother’s massive shadow. But Colette doesn’t see it that way. She says she lies because it’s the most fun she can have with her clothes on. Not that she’s had that much fun with her clothes off. At least not yet, anyway…

When her mother drags her away from Hollywood to spend the entire summer on location in a boring little town in the middle of nowhere, Colette is less than thrilled. But then she meets a sexy biker named Connor. He’s older, gorgeous, funny, and totally into her. So what if she lies to him about her age, and about who her mother is? I mean, she has to keep her mother’s identity a secret from him. If he finds out who she really is, he’ll forget all about Colette, and start panting and drooling and asking her for her mother’s autograph. Just like everyone always does.

But what Colette doesn’t know is that Connor is keeping a secret of his own…

Liana's Summary: Colette is addicted to lying. Even her friends have a joke about her and her BS. When she meets Connor, though, of course Colette continues to lie-- but what will that lead to? Colette doesn't know, but she'll find out. As things start escalating, and she uncovers the real truth about Connor-- she starts to realize something about herself..

Rate(1-10): 9

I'm so glad I didn't put this book off 'till later. Because this was an amazingly fantastic novel.

I really need to read more of Sonya Sones's books. It just.. whoa. Her writing style is absolutely, pos-i-lute-ly amazing. Like, whoa. I've never read anything like that before. So, once this comes out, I recommend you go to your nearest bookstore or Amazon or Barnes and Noble or whatever, and buy this book. Buy it. Just buy it.

literally (well, maybe not literally-- but still!) flew through this book. Because of two things: 1, the amazing plot that kept me reading, and 2, the WRITING FORMAT. It's like, poetry. Whoa. Just, whoa.. You'll have to read it to see what I'm talking about. (It's almost like what Tahereh Mafi does. But different.)

So, this whole story revolves around the main character, Colette, a fifteen year old girl who is apparently addicted to lying. (What even.) She annoyed me, so, so much, throughout the whole entire story, because of her little fabrications and lies and stuff. Gosh, that just annoys me. She's one of those girls that will hang out with nobody else BUT her boyfriend, so eager to please him and so scared to lose him. However, she managed to hit character development near the end and that was just fabulous. The character development, in my opinion, was very well portrayed-- and it shows a moral too. You only see that sometimes in a YA fiction novel.

Gah, that romance. That was just.. I can't really say anything without spoiling.

It's obvious that I liked this book. A lot. And I'd recommend it to people. Just, read it.

Quotes! (I get to show you guys what I mean by Sonya's writing format.)
Note: This is an ARC copy. Quotes may not completely match those of the final print's.

"I'm amusing myself by tossing imaginary
poison darts at the back of her head."

So mean to her mom!

"because the guy turns to look right at me
and, for a split second,
our eyes lock."

Well well well

"I will
hunt you down.
And I will kill you."

Aggressive much?

"Mommy,
why it that man
thtaring at your boobth?"

Oh my god this little kid

"that I've forgotten
about my brother--
sitting outside on that bench"

Let me guess, he's not there

"His hair!
It's so awesome
it isn't even funny--"

NOTHING IS FUNNY OKAY. SHUT UP COLETTE DAMMIT

"Genetics."

-gasp- she didn't

"You didn't really think
he was gonna kiss me, did you?
I mean, we only met a few minutes ago."

Kinda used to your fabrications now, Colette

"He hasn't even tried to kiss me yet."

Oh, get over yourself

"Connor tells me he's eighteen,
so I tell him I am too,"

Seriously?!

"because I don't know his last name,"

SHE DOESN'T KNOW HIS LAST NAME WHY IS THIS FUNNY

"Oh yes you are!
You're the sickest bastard
I've ever met!"

Now, this is where the character development starts. Yipee.
