Follow Friday #29!

Alison Can Read Feature & FollowFeature and Follow Friday!
This weekly meme is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. This week's features are The Mile Long Bookshelf and Hardcore Heroine.

How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
It just depends, actually. I used to power through every single book that I read, even if I didn't like it at all, but now I kind of just DNF if I don't see the point in finishing. Of course, if it's a review copy, then I definitely have to finish, but no one says I can't skim through the last few pages if I really don't like it. I mean, if people said a certain book was SO GOOD, and I didn't like it halfway through, I'd definitely just finish it and see. If not, I'd probably just drop it. But I'd definitely get halfway through any book before even considering DNF-ing it.

How about you guys?

Happy Friday!

  1. Happy Friday :) I have a hard time DNFing, too, but I hope I'll become better at ti. There are so many books I want to read!

  2. I agree! I keep on going especially if there's a lot of hype over the book. New follower :)

  3. My time has become more limited since I started working full-time, and I find myself less inclined to power through if I hate something/am bored by it. I still do my hardest not to DNF, cause I feel so guilty. But I do it on occasion. Unless I really loathe it though, I'm unlikely to review it. I'd rather spend my time talking about books that I love! :) New bloglovin and GFC follower.

    1. And YAY! :) I hope you like Anna and the French Kiss. One of my faves from a couple years ago. I really liked Beta as well!

  4. When its a review copy and I really really hate it, then sometimes I do go and check out other reviews for the book. If it's a consensus that the book sucks, then I won't feel bad DNFing the book. If everyone loves it, then I might force myself to finish it. And then rant in my review about how everyone lied to me and the book SUCKED!

  5. I do feel guilty if I have to DNF a review copy. I actually had to do that recently. I just couldn't get into the book or connect with the characters. I felt kind of bad though. Great response :) New GFC Follower!

  7. I usually don't give up until I am at least half done, and I have to be completely over the book or I will power it out.

  8. That's how it is for me, I have to finish at least half of the book.

  9. Great answer! I completely agree with you, however, I read at least 100 pages allowing enough time for something to occur and capture my attention before I DNF a book.

  10. Even with review copies I sometimes don't finish them if I've got a good reason. I'll write a small review explaining why I can't finish it, but at the end of a day, if I don't like a book, I don't like it.

  11. Usually, I will give it 50-100 pages but it has to be fast-paced to keep my interest. I'm picky about what I read so only have 1 DNF so far!

  12. I always power through books because I feel as if there's something better awaiting me somewhere in the book. Great answer! I'm a new GFC follower. :)

  13. It depends on the book for me. If I really WANT to like it I'll be more patient, but if I'm just so- so on it I'm more willing to DNF. If somebody recommends it I also will give it more time... new follower via bloglovin and GFC.
