Follow Friday #10!

FF 2012 Feature & Follow #122The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read.

This week's features are Ramblings of a Coffee Adicted Writer and Paranormal Romance.
Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

Well, sometimes, when the book is really good, I'm really happy when I see something like that happen in another book, as long as the author uses their own style- not just like, Oh, I'm going to change the character names and use the same exact plot and call it my own. I'm sorry to say this but I really hate fanfictions. I just HATE HATE HATE fanfictions. Not only because I hate erotica (ahem ahem- most fanfictions ARE like that.), it's because fanfictions always run wild and they ruin the characters I already got to know. So yeah. Anyways.

If you follow me, just comment below and I'll be more than glad to follow back! Happy Friday and happy reading!

  1. I don't really see the allure of fanfiction either. They just mess with already established stories and characters.

  2. I'm not big on fanfic either, mostly because the quality is always so bad. Anything totally recycled is un-appealing as well. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  3. Woo. Liana. First one! Dang qurl, you must be checking every second or something. :) Gotta beat Ella Longstock <3

    1. Oh hey, and you caught up on your 2012 Reading Challenge! I only have 127! One less than me. :)

  4. I am not a fan-fic fan at all. I don't read any of that stuff. But I don't mind a new spin on other stories if the author twists it around a little. Some stories are so universal that it’s almost a given that they will be retold, like The Iliad and the Odyssey. The story is an archetype of the hero’s journey.

  5. Being a huge tv junkie and getting obsessed with shows led me to reading fanfics at an early age, lol. Sometimes shows just don't go in the direction I want them to, so it can be a good outlet to get my mind off of it. There are some good ones, some (not some... a lot of) bad ones. But when I see them published, it's just weird. They should just stay on the net. Agreed with you, changing names and keeping plots is a huge no-no. Old follower! :)

  6. Hopping through. I like well written fan fiction, which is few and far between, but does exist. Most of it is awful though.

  7. Found you through Parajunkee's FF. I have to say I totally agree on fanfic, it's not really my thing either. I'm your newest follower :)

  8. You know, I've never read any fanfiction and if it's all erotica like you say, I don't think I'll bother! New follower. Here's mine: My FF

  9. I have actually read fanfic that was OK, but I do not agree on fanfic authors actually publishing what they've written and earn money on it.

    Here's my
    FF post for this week.
    Have a fantastic Friday!

  10. I haven't really read fanfiction (that I am aware of) but if its like you say then I can't imagine that I'd enjoy it.

  11. Hi,

I'm enjoying the blog hop, which has brought me to your page today.

    Kind regards,

  12. Nice answer, thanks for sharing.

  13. Nice!! I have to agree as well. It's different to be influenced but to actually rehash and just change a few details is too obvious and sloppy.

  14. Heylo!
I've actually never read fanfic but that's exactly how I thought it would be and why I never touched it. lol

  15. I totally agree with you about fanfiction. I've never really read any but the ones that our out there just don't look any good at all!

  16. I agree with you about the first part. I do like fanfiction as long as they stay true to the original characters. I mean when you have a bad guy in a book, I expect to stay that way in the fanfiction and not for him to have a sudden change of heart and become one of the good ones just because...

  17. Agree with you 100% on everything you said. I don't mind it when I enjoy it but the same overused idea can bother me sometimes. Awesome answer :D
